OOh a fellow Shredder
I am trying to build up to running again.Used to run years ago-then had a knee op, piled on weight-and well the rest is history.
I love the challenges on here- i find the grocery one quite good-but aim to roughly spend within my limit. The other side to that is that i just pull out the money for that shop and keep it at that. Surprising when you do that how good at sticking to a budget i can get. But then i fail on other months..lol, especially when busy at work, something i want to work on and plan around.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

I love running. I love the buzz that you get when you first start. I like the fact that it tones you up all over and I especially love the shower at the end of itIt's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Morning all
Bit later today but had a nice extra snooze. Will have to go out for a waddle at lunchtime
Hi Savingholmes - thanks for the welcome. It's great knowing I'm not on my own.
Polesalot - My budgets look great on paper it's the reality I have a problem with. Maybe I secretly like the colour red and that's why I'm always over budget.
Bob - I'm a bit like you in the running front. Believe it or not I've waddled my way to 2 marathons and loads of 10ks and half marathons. (I was always at the back with St John's ambulance keeping me company but I loved it).
Then disaster - my hip & knee went. I finally went to see a sports injury doctor and she said that she was pleased to see a proper injury. (I think she cackled at the same time:)). Anyhow in my last marathon (2 years ago) I damaged my seliac joint (can't spell, but it's somewhere in my hip and messed up my IT band - knee). So then my weight started creeping up... sigh.
I'm back to running and slowly creeping up the milage but I usually run 3 miles during the week and 6 at the weekend. I've entered for the London marathon next year (successfully rejected every year I've applied - thank you - and forgot to apply the 1 year year that would have given me guaranteed entry the following year). Knee not totally fixed but manageable with loads of stretching and massage. I just want to do london once and content myself with waddling the rest of my days.
Sorry when I start talking about running (plodding) I can ramble on.:jDEBT FREE 27 July 2011:j

Evening diaryland
Managed an NSD today and still within my points and it's Friday, what more could I want :j
Friday night is usually Chinese and wine with OH but he is working overtime this weekend so I'm on my own with a cup of tea. On the positive side, I have the remote all to myself:)
Going for a run tmw with a friend who is in his 70's and puts me to shame:o He started running when he was 68 as he always wanted to do a marathon and we met at a beginners running group. He managed to do his marathon when he was 70. I hope to be that active when I'm in my 70s:)
WW points today - Shredded w (3) + Chicken salad (4) + Fish fingers for tea (7) + yoghurt (2) + tiny sweet (1?)= 17:jDEBT FREE 27 July 2011:j

Oh i have applied for next year too- i am hoping to get in and then i will be doing it in earnest. Want to do a few others as well. It has always been an ambition of mine and i am fed up of being on the sidelines. You too have inspired me now, i will so do it if i get inBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Bob -It's becoming a bit of a ritual biting my nails in Sept/Oct waiting for the ballot results. At least I will have someone else to virtually chew nails with
.
A friend recommended I follow the Jeff Galloway running programme which you might find interesting. It's supposed to help you run injury free and it's a run walk programme https://www.jeffgalloway.com. My plan is to make it round in one piece, if I get in.
Just finished reading your diary and it's brilliant. Well done with everything you've achieved so far.:jDEBT FREE 27 July 2011:j

Just wanted to welcome a fellow newbie!! I think we joined within a day of each other!
I wish I had the dedication to run - my brain just laughs at me if I think about it, using the following excuse:
"Big dogs, buses when it's raining... what else would you CHOOSE to run for?" and I have to say, I'm stuck for a reply!
WW does work well if you can stay within your points and the tip about the bread was a good one too, at least it worked well for me!
Sounds like you're doing well so far, keep it up! Remember, we're all watching!! (If that doesn't stop you spending, heaven knows what will!)

Morning diaryland
Hi Sessie - thank you for the welcome and I've just subscribed to your diary. We can keep each other motivated. So far so good with my diary, I don't want to confess anything bad on my diary so it's stopping me spending.:o
Lovely OH phoned at 8 to tell me it was a gorgeous morning and to get out of bed (he's been at work since 5) hmmmmmmm has he never had a duvet day???? To be fair I was awake just not wanting to budge.
I've now been dived on by my 3 year old nephew offering me tic tacs for breakfast and wanting to go to the park right now.
OK it is officially time to take on the world.
Plans for today
Meet running buddy at 10. Run 6 miles - collapse in heap
Do ironing
Hoover house
Start sorting out last years holiday clothes for this year:T
Go to opticians
Go to park - very important:)
That should keep me going today. Have a lovely day everyone.:jDEBT FREE 27 July 2011:j

Update for today -
I had a few spends, oops, confession time -
Petrol - £20.12 - it's a necessity so I don't feel guilty.
Carwash - £4 -I normally wash it myself but a stupid cement lorry was in front of me on the dual carriage way yesterday and started shedding bits of concrete on my wee car. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it
(Just driven down the road behind a silage trailer and now my car looks like a lawn:()
Tesco - £13.30 (not bad)
Eyedrops - £4.49 (trying to get used to contact lenses)
Going to Oh house now and having a pizza, so that will be his spends
I usually avoid pizza as there is a million points in it but needs must.
On the plans front not a lot done
M[STRIKE]eet running buddy at 10. Run 6 miles[/STRIKE] - ran 5 lovely miles. Beautiful day and so glad to be plodding along
Do ironing - It can wait another day
Hoover house - Who really notices dirt??? another day
Start sorting out last years holiday clothes for this year - honestly I will do it tomorrow:rotfl:
[STRIKE]Go to opticians[/STRIKE] - done, trying another type of lens as eyes ain't happy
[STRIKE]Go to park[/STRIKE] - very important - was there for hours which is why nothing else got done.
On the points front I've done well so far -
Weetabix (2), Omlette (4), skinny cow lolly (1.5) = 7.5 :A
but..... tonight I will have 1 red wine (or 2) and pizza:eek: but i will enjoy every bit. It is the weekend and I ran today.
Have a good night everyone.:jDEBT FREE 27 July 2011:j

Well I think you got more done than me!
You can easily afford to eat the pizza if you've done 5 miles
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0
