  • Hello there! Could do with some advice. Obviously didn't realise this would probably be the more likely thread to get a response.

My mum's been a customer at Sky for around 4 years, just the basic TV package, nothing else, at £22 a month. She has one of the regular Sky boxes before Sky+ came along at a more affordable rate. I'm pretty sure she's out of contract and I wouldn't mind trying to negotiate something better for her. Could I get a Sky+ HD box for free with installation and the HD channels free for 6 months, something like that?

Also if I could get some free sports/movies channels for her then she'd be even happier.

My mother in Law is in the same position, I'd like to know this too..
  • I noticed today, when joining now the Sky+ box is free
  • Im about to move house and im looking at VM as it is slightly cheaper than sky and i prefer the internet with them. Looking on their site now for 30mb internet, medium tv and medium phone with tivo is £41.90. I just missed out on the 6 month half price off (and quidco cashback). I cant seem to haggle with the online chat person like you can with sky - would i be able to get a better deal in one of their shops or should i just bite the bullet and ring their customer line and try to be a bit cheeky?

    HI

I am moving house and looking to get digital tv. In the area I can get Sky or BT Vision. I have never come across BT vision does it have the same channels as Sky and Virgin? The channels I like are Sky One, Universal, Sky Atlantic and SyFy they are the ones I watch the most. So I know with Sky I would just need bthe package that is about 20quid a month. I am tied into BT for another 9 months for my broadband and phonecalls so at the moment this is just purely for digital tv provision although when my contract is up with BT I will be leaving the rip off merchants :)

Any advice would be great. Thanks :)

    Here's my situation:

    • 2 V+ boxes (bedroom + living room).
    • Both have all channels and HD, although the one in the bedroom doesn't have the Sky Sports HD channels.
    • Broadband: 10 mb speed
    • 2 landlines with different numbers
We're paying around £95.00 per month and was wondering:
Can Sky better that at all?

Do you think there's any chance of me getting an improvement on this deal if I went through the cancellation line and if so, what would you suggest?

I'm hoping I can get the broadband increased to 20-30 and the V+ boxes replaced with Tivo boxes. All that, for a lower price.

I may be asking for a bit here, but I'm thinking I'd really need an existing quote from Sky so Virgin have something to beat.

    Please advise, I'll appreciate it.
  • Was shocked to see my bill last month was £81 (special deal on half-price broadband had ended). Checked with Sky - to my chagrin, like-for-like price was identical, but would have got £155 cash back. Called Virgin. Told them bill was too high and I was thinking of moving to Sky. Guy correctly told me it would cost the same (they do check!). I said yes, but with cashback and special offers it would work out about £20 cheaper. He said best they could do was £70. I said okay. Did have to agree to new 12-month contract, but can downgrade package without penalty at any time. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure I had 18 months to run on the currect contract, so all in quite happy that I've saved £110 a year. Cheers, Martin. :T:T
  • My contracts nearly up for Virgin, just called them and they've offered me a 500GB Tivo Box, large broadband, medium telephone and large TV for £39.90 pm, or the smae with XL tv for £43.90 pm, apparantly they will also move my existing standard v-box upstairs for free.

Need to look at it more closely but has anyone had a better deal than this recently or should i hold out for more? These were the standard retention offers the guy reeled out to mestraight away, like to think i could get a little more than the standard package?
  • I've been sent an offer by Virgin to switch from Sky to their new TiVo service. It does look like a wonderful deal. Free TiVo box installation & activation and a bundle of 160 channels, (XL) 10Mb broadband (L) & phone (M) all for £41 a month.
But Virgin do talk the talk and I switched from them to Sky a few years ago when Sky & Virgin fell out and I could not watch my favourite programmes.
I currently pay £52 for Sky World (including Sky Sports and Movies) and £15 with Pipex (soon to be Talk Talk) including land line (this will go up to £22 in November). My contract runs out in March.
On paper, it looks good to switch to the Virgin bundle, but, to be honest, I am happy with Sky. Never had a problem with Customer service and when my Sky+ box broke, it was replaced quickly.
I am definitely thinking of switching broadband when the contract runs out. But should I go for this Virgin Bundle? There's a little voice telling me that it's too good to be true and there's a catch.
