Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I'm with Virgin and have L TV L broadband and M phone for which I'm paying £43.50 a month. I have one of the old STBs with only a SCART output. I called and asked about upgrading my STB so I could at least get the HD channels that are part of my packeage but was told it would cost £20 delivery and I'd have to start a new contract. I've had Virgin since it was Nynex. Is there any way to get a new STB that has an HDMI output without paying?

After seeing the deals offered to new customer I phoned Virgin having been informed on-line that existing customers could upgrade to one of the new collections.
I am currently on 10M broad band and an old fashioned box paying nearly £60 a month with 'Talk anytime'.
After an argument with the chap who answered the phone who was qoting £68 he passed me on to customer services.
The end result was that I ended up (after a small haggle) with the 'Essential Collection' - Tivo box, 30M broad band (up from 10) and 'Talk Anytime' thrown in for free. We have lost a few TV channels but most are ones we don't watch anyway.
Total cost £38.90 - down from £59.10 for better services.

which tivo box the 500g or the 1tb, if you where a new customer that would be £12.50 for the first 6months followed by £25 thereafter with the 500gb tivo.
    see link http://store.virginmedia.com/bundles/our-collections.html
of course theres this on the bottom of that page *This offer is for new customers who take a Virgin Phone line for £13.90 a month.
but then technically how can they sell you telephone in the package if they dont supply the phoneline.
so assuming the above is correct that would be £12.50 + £13.90 = £29.40 for 6months followed by £38.90 afterwards.
small note, if your getting the new HUB aka router/modem in one, get ready for a 7 day fix on the activation, as you'll probably get the same error code 0070 so you wont have BB for 7 days after you get it through to them what the actual problem is, that i got when i got my new free hub when upgraded free to the 20mb aka we're doubling your speeds.
i'm only online due to my OLD modem.

a quote from my other post on the subject,
another minor update, just found out via community.virginmedia.com/ what the error code 0070 actually means.
its stuck behind THEIR firewall or as someone else put it
    Quote:
i think i recall 0070 is a code saying that it is stuck in the walled garden (firewall) and needs releasing into the wild

you need to call tech support on 150 (free from a vm landline) option 2,3,2 and ask if it is stuck in the walled garden

my disconnection date is 13 June and frankly unless they offer me a better deal i wont be staying. i was going to ask for the basic essentials with xl telephone. but i'm making sure i wont be paying anything more than £30, £25 if they dont give me half price for 6months. mainly due to the fact i've only had telephone xl and 10mb broadband since they last upgraded me to, which they have been reducing/throttling to 1/5 of the speed 80-90% of the time. aka 2mb usually what i've been getting which i've been paying £31 a month for. considering my sister gets tv aswell and is paying a little over what i'm paying £31.50 i think she said.

Currently we have Freeview TV, virgin Broadband (old modem), BT Landline, & Orange mobile.
Virgin is in the wife's name (pre-marriage) i.e. different to mine, we never got around to changing it with virgin.
Any ideas, thoughts on cancelling the virgin BB, then going for the bundle online in my name with Virgin,
Thinking of the £60 + £143 cashback plus 6 months half price.
    Thanks
  • I've just phoned Sky and got £12.75 per month off my TV package for 12 months.

    I'm quite pleased with that.:)

Inspired by this very helpful thread, I thought I would have a go. I have been with Sky for 10 years on a variety of packages (currently on entertainment and sports) and never had, or asked for, a discount.

I said I couldn't afford it anymore and wanted to cancel. The lady coughed up 25% off for 1 year with no contract straight away. When I said that was not enough, she tried all sorts of bundled deals which did not interest me. I said I simply needed a lower price but she could not comply.

Finally she tried to submit the cancellation and spent 20 minutes battling the system which said it was unable to cancel. She then said it would take up to 4 days to fix and I should call back then. I lost my rag slightly at this point and demanded that someone call me to confirm the cancellation.

It all seems very fishy to me that a company like Sky cannot process such a simple request. Is this some kind of ruse on their part or was I really just unlucky?

I am genuinely not bothered about leaving so if I do not get a callback with at least 50% off for a year, then so be it.

Well I got switched off today without a call from the winback team so I guess I wait for the fabled leaflet with 50% off.

I am with Virgin and have
    Broadband L
    TV XL
    Phone M

This costs me £55.40 a month.

Is it worth my while phoning to see if I can get a better deal?
My HD channels go off quite often as does my broadband.

Hi Kingcog, please could you keep the thread updated as to whether you ever receive a 50% offer as I have cancelled and it's due to all be switched off toward the end of the month so am interested in how long it takes to receive the offer, if ever

    Thanks

I would certainly have a go.

I have the same package as you at the moment but with a V+ box and mine works out about £50 per month.

I rang a few weeks ago to haggle and they offered me £4 off my current package or else I could change to one of their new packages:-

M+ TV with free Tivo 500 box
    M Phone
    30mb BB with superhub
    Free install

    for £37 per month.

It meant losing a lot of channels but gaining on BB and a Tivo box. I thought they could do better so I cancelled my services completely and waited for them to ring me to get me to reconsider. When they eventually rang, they offered me:-

XL TV with V+ (no change)
    M Phone (no change)
30mb broadband with superhub (free install)
    £60 credit on my account

    for £40 per month

    Very happy with that!
