Will prob just take sky sports @£20 which is all the boys wanted anyway.

In my experience, calling them does not really help as you are more likely to reach some junior person that has no access to the real deals.

As suggested here in this page and in many other previous posts, the best is to stick to the cancellation call and notice period... It seems like the longer you wait the better the "come back" deal becomes...

I have given them notice and will get TV until April 21. No calls just yet, I will keep you posted.

I'm having trouble getting pages to load on the virgin media website. I click on "create your own bundle" and i get a screen saying i've clicked a broken link.

Anyone had the same happen to them.

Avoid creating online bundles -you need to phone and haggle - i just upgraded my TV service (on 12 month contract though) at no extra cost

Completely see where you are coming from and I agree with parts if not all... :) however....

People paying full price and never bothering to ring up to get a deal are the people that subsidise my (and other people's) reduced subscriptions. If I know I can ring up and get a deal, should I not bother because its not fair on people who don't bother? If everyone in the country wanted to, then they could all ring up and ask for an offer, just people are too lazy / busy to bother...

If Sky / VM did start saying "right, no more deals, we'll just offer one 'good value' package for £30 a month (for example)" then the lazy people would benefit through reduced bills, and the people who graft to get a deal (like me) would lose out by having to pay more... now that would be unfair.

You see that is exactly what I am getting at, people who are worldly and into technical stuff will know how and when to get the deals but take our friends who are in their 80's. They have never had a computer and wouldn't have a clue how to use one, and haven't a clue about how to "negotiate" a deal on the phone as they are quite deaf. Basically they are nice people who grew up in a world where being honest and paying their way actually benefitted them. Now we have millions of old age pensioners, vulnerable people who do not understand technology the systemm, or are unable to "fight" for the deals. People like you (and I don't mean this disrespectfully) benefit from their incapacity to fight their corner.

Great if you are on the receiving end of the benefits, not so good if it is your dear old grandma or the dyslexic or backward couple down the road.

Of course the suppliers love it, they can afford to give the few "shouters" the best deals whilst they exploit the most vulnerable for the profits, of which there are millions !

Great world we live in ! No wonder there is no respect, no honesty, and no integrity left in the world :(

Don't know how people get these deals like the last poster.

We are with VM and recently when we moved I rang to haggle a better package as I felt we were paying too much. We had BB 10Mb, TV M, and Basic Phone (Weekend free) and were paying over £40 without call costs. They would not knock down the price so I told them as the phone in the new property was with BT I wanted to stay with them and what would they charge me just for BB and TV. I am paying £33 per month for as I say BB 10Mb and TV M. They tried to talk me into taking bigger packages and all sorts but I refused and threatened to change suppliers. He said he could do nothing and that was the cheapest we could get !!

Now because of the rubbish they are putting on TV I am thinking of just cancelling VM altogether and living with Freeview or going to BT for my BB, I cannot go to Sky because we are not allowed a dish.

Surely I am being overcharged with VM for TV and BB ?

The only thing I can suggest (unless you have already done this) is to contact BT and Sky and get prices for the deal which you require. You can then use these prices as comparative bargaining points when talking to the VM retentions person. This is all I did and although they didn't quite match the £18.50 Sky would have charged, they did beat BT and at the same time offered me a vastly more powerful BB service by staying with VM.

I am not sure I can get a quote from BT for Broadband and TV as I am already on a "Calls Unlimited Plan" with BT until the end of the year. Would I still get a deal if I added BB and TV to my phone deal ? BT don't seem to offer deals for existing customers on their web site, all the offers appear to be for new customers. As I said I can't have Sky anyway as we are not allowed a dish so no point in contacting them.

It doesn't matter that you can't actually have sky, the point is you're getting an alternative quote to help you haggle with vm.

Can you tell me what happens if I decide to switch my VM BB to BT and keep my TV package with VM. What would it cost me just for the TV? I don't really want to switch my TV to BT as they do not offer the channels like Alibi etc. If push comes to shove I would get rid of the TV and settle for Freeview if it costs too much just to keep TV with VM.
  • rang virgin the other day as ide got a leaflet through the door saying they have new packages for new customers .I then rang them up and said that it wasnt fair that i should pay more for a lesser package than the one they where advertising to new customers ,they then tried to offer me a downgrade which realy turned out to be an upgrade if you know what i mean:).
    what i had;50meg broadband,xl tv,phone anytime=£83 amonth

    what i got for a collections package;60meg broadband,xl tv,tivo box,extra hd box in another room,calls evenings and weekends,half price for 2 month at £27 a month then £54 a month.

THATS NEARLY £348 A YEAR SAVING FOR A BETTER PACKAGE:j
