  • Well done on all the OPs. We're in a similar position I think - FD tracker with offset - hoping to be offset by april 2012...we'll see!

  • I was trying to work out how much we've saved so far as a monthly % of take home pay, taken from chamichelle97's thread...
Taking into account our take home pay, it's around something stupid like 72% which seems far too high - will double check my money stats are working correctly...

  • Anyway, a small update. Had a lovely week away with friends, recharged, slightly tender arms (too much sunshine) but feeling great. Didn't spend much last week, mainly fuel last week was the only expense, and some bits and bobs like presents/Easter bunnies. Off shopping now and I hope to be able to get through this week (get paid on Thu PM due to bank holidays) without many heavy expenses. Next month I need to get a new passport and get my car MOT'ed and potentially services. Could be costly. Have been working out some parameters for what to aim for Christmas, e.g. I could aim to get our mortgage under 10k, I'd symbolically drop it down to 9,999 to get it under 4 digits, which would mean to all intents and purposes the mortgage wouldn't be a worry - or we just aim to blitz it and get it all cleared, Easter 2012 (April 2012) is what I am thinking is a realistic target.

OM, try f1autocentres for your MOT. Mine's due next month so i've been looking around as I normally pay about £50. These are doing a 50% off if you book online offer. Even cheaper if you book a service aswell. Code here for a further 10% off but not booked mine yet so can't tell you if it works -

  • Thanks Linz for the info - appreciate it. We've got a family friend who we use and who is the sort of mechanic who shows you what he's done, which is often a pile of rusted parts or worn cables etc, and who we feel charges a fair price for a great service. That's one of the problems isn't it, when it's all up in the air, and you don't know what and how they decide if it's passable or not...

  • Am baffled (and delighted) with credit cards today.
Took out a CC from M and S - recommended on here, and having only used one a few times here and there, I bought some stuff, and am amazed at a) how long it is before first payment and b) How little it is as a regular monthly minimum payment.
It's easy to see how you can easily fall into very dangerous patterns of borrowing a load when you only need to pay the minimum off per month.
Fortunately using my MSE talent, I've got a spreadsheet set up to work out minimum costs, a reminder in my calendar to make a complete payment and a smug look as I'm getting this at 0% APR. Perfect :)

  • Will aim to get another £.5k in by the end of the month, I enjoy paying off a sum a week, so come Friday, I might see if I can make an overpayment to get to my target.

  • A cheap day, and week so far. Have had a pleasant day at work which makes all the difference. It's amazing how quickly this year goes through - 3 weeks till half term, much deserved if you ask me. Am also realising that we're generally "screwed down" most bills to a sensible level. I guess over time we will see how it goes, but we're in a good position really, no complaints.
