Amazing Laptop Deal at Comet

It's a 64bit 1.8GHz processor so it's a good all-round bit of kit. As usual, don't be tempted by Comet's add-on warranty, but Acer also offer a much cheaper & very good warranty of their own - details normally come with the system.

Acer systems are getting better these days as far as quality is concerned - as good as any other major brand.

Has anyone gone phisically to Comet and checket what is it really?

Acer recently introduced the 5100 series replacing the old 5000 (with the 5100 featuring the new AMD Turion 64 X2, dual core).
It might be this is a clearance item, but would be surprised if they sell it with large memory (1 GB) and large HD as mentioned here. I think the 5000 series can have just 512 MB RAM and of course a small HD could be mounted.

If anyone can pop-up to Comet or give them a call, post the results!

I just phoned my local branch in the city who informed me that they, and no-one in the company have any in stock.

There is no "Due-in" date and all she could offer was that maybe they were waiting for Acer to make some more and send them to Comet.

Spoke to a lady at customer service who said that this was a new laptop and they did not have any in stock yet that is why they have no spec tried to order one over the phone and they advised me that they should have stock on Monday. You could always try to ring Acer but they will not answer until Mon 09:00 (0870 853 1002)

The only thing I can say is the gent I tried to order it with commented that it was a cracking good deal ?????

As stated I had ordered one of these and posted the deal here in good faith for others. Next time something looks like a good deal I'll keep it to myself.

My comment wasn't aimed at you buddy.

I'm sure everyone is grateful that you posted the deal. I really hope it works out and the laptops DO materialize.

All I meant was that in my experience of these type of bargains, it usually ends up with a very long wait - which is fine if you ever get what it is you waited for. I currently have an order with HMV for a "bargain" item which has been backordered for a few months now. They do like to keep offering me the opportunity to cancel the order though! :rotfl:

It's just a case of wait and see with anything that's a bargain like this. I personally wouldn't have ordered before I found out the full specification but then that's why I probably miss all the good deals and other people with bigger vegetables than me get em' !

in the comet catalogue it gives 3 stars for a duo core with 120gb and 1gb ram in terms of tech specifications, it also gives the same rating for a hp with the same spec as above but with this ml34 processor from amd
