Selling car on Ebay - am I being scammed?
Comments
-
Have just checked the listing and one of the 'too high' bidders from yesterday had put another silly bid in and sent a question asking if I would ship to Africa!! Thanks to the earlier info from you guys, I obviously said NO. Cheers!
Glad you sorted it before the sale was final OP.
Obviously as I stated at the start, was a scam
Hope you manage to sell it

2 points:
1. Paypal protection does not apply to vehicle sales on Ebay, so even though you can't prove 'delivery' by tracked posting, the buyer can't open an 'item not received' claim to get their money back.
HOWEVER
2. If the buyer pays by credit card they can reverse this (for up to 6 months I beleive). Without a proof of posting you have no protection against a chargeback.
Dealers will always tell you cash is king. If you've got a guy standing in front of you with a fistful of paper vs a guy on ebay who might come and have a look at it, and might change his mind or start haggling, you'd be a fool not to take the readies.
Hope this helps :-)0 -
I would always sale any car I had and only accept cash, if someone isn't happy about paying cash then I'd rather them walk away and go buy one from someone who accepts cheques/cards.
I have always asked in the past, before I give the keys to someone and taking payment, 'Are you happy with the car in it's current condition', as if they are not, I'd rather they walked away.
Stick with cash, you can't go to wrong with it

Update - CAR SOLD :j
I sold it for £60 under my 'minimum' price. I held out for my price for a while but caved in the end for the price of a tank of fuel.
The guy that bought it was the first one that called me and he did indeed turn out to be a trader (why do people try to hide this fact). But he had a good look round, had a quick test drive, a bit of haggling and a handshake. The deal was done for cash (all 20's, and all look fine).
The car has been a real headache (long, long story) and its good to see the back of it.
Again, thanks for all the replies. :beer:0 -
..must remember to cancel the Ebay listing.0

- Many people don't.
It's nice to hear that all turned out for the best which is always the best ending
