Selling car on Ebay - am I being scammed?

Hi

I have just put a car up for sale on Ebay and within 5 minutes of the listing I have received 3 phone calls. All 3 callers were very eager to come and view the car, offering my reserve price or, in the case of the last caller, £500 over that for a immediate sale (said he was in the area and had the cash and driving licence on him). All 3 sounded Asian but gave English names (I know this doesn't automatically mean that they are not genuine) and were a bit pushy.

Has anyone else had this and am I right to be wary of these calls?

I have not given out my address (and the car is not stored here anyway) and have taken their mobile numbers. I have told them that I will call them tomorrow when I know what time I will be home in the evening. Is there anything else I should be worried about?

If someone does come and offer cash, is this safe?

Thanks.

You pop your car up for sale and have 3 buyers ........

OK might be up to something but just make sure you get cash or the money is transferred into your account before parting with the car.
  • Bro in law put a scabbie corsa van on the other day. Within no time had loads of emails requesting what he'd accept and a guy arranged to come up an hour or so later. Liked it and came back next night with the cash.
Perhaps its just a popular car or cheap.

    Be careful.

I would have someone with you at the time you arrange for anyone to come and view the car, in case they come as a group and out number you and take the keys/demand the keys from you without payment.

Any test drive must be secured by you keeping the cash or at least a deposit and there driving license.

There is also no need for 3 persons to go for a test drive, one is fine or 2 if its a couple as they will maybe be both driving the car.

Three calls within 5 minutes does seem a little odd to me, specially when eBay listings do not update that quickly, more like an hour to 12 hours sometimes.

But at the end of the day, if you are not happy, do not go ahead with the sale with the people you are not happy with, you could also add to your listing something along the lines like:

'No off eBay sales' or 'This listing will be left to continue and will not be sold off eBay'

This way you can have a little more knowledge of protection.

However, good luck selling you car and hope you get what you want for it OP :D

    Erm, do you understand eBay?

They do classified car adverts that are just simply straightforward adverts, nothing to do with any auction.

Do stop posting about things that you do not understand Sassy, it helps nobody.

Also, the OP is selling it by auction, maybe you need to read the starting post instead of going to my post each time.

The OP has had offers over his reserve, I trust you have nothing better to do at this time of morning instead of to attempt to disrupt others:rotfl:

I have as much right to post on here as you do, I was only setting the record straight, it clearly does not help anyone if you post such factually inaccurate nonsense.

Feel free to report any of my posts to Admin by all means, however Admin will very quickly see who is right and who is wrong here.

You, who would have seen by reading the starting post that the OP has his car in the auction, therefore my post being correct.

It's quite simple pal, don't read my posts if you don't like my advice, I'm not advising you, not asking anyone to take my advice, I'm offering it, this is a open free forum.

I would be grateful in future if you simply ignore my posts Inactive, that way you or I don't get into a disagreement, which in this case, would not have happened if you cared to read the first post correctly prior to replying to mine ;)

    Thanks.

No, just let the auction run, you will lose the protection that eBay offers, you will also be in breach of their T&C's.

have to disagree with you there,if someone offers cash why wouldn't you take it lot safer than a fake bankers draft or a rubber cheque, and to be honest sod ebays terms and conditions they are not worth the paper they are written on
