Lloyds TSB Current account experience! 16-17 Year olds

Hello,

This was about Natwest. Until i walked into a Lloyds tsb branch today!

The under 19s account is great for the following reasons...
A. Lloyds "so far" Have given me the best service ever from a bank.
B. They offer a dual fuction Visa Not electron for under 19s
C. You are treated as an adult and a normal customer.

Yeah brillant so far..

I'll keep everyone informed!

P.S I might close my natwest account (Current Account)

Now if your working and have a good monthly income of roughly 600 + pounds you maybe allowed to hold a switch card.

    <snip>

Telephone and internet banking is available for over 16s as well.

OK, you were talking about Natwest but.......

Clydesdale Bank give out Maestro on even their under 16s account.

Bank of Scotland give Visa Electron on their account for those aged 11-18.

Lloyds TSB give Visa Debit on their Under 19s account to those aged over 16.

(Both of those are without meeting any special criteria, just as standard)

Clydesdale Bank/Bank of Scotland (Halifax) give people under 16 online and telephone banking.

    :)
  • First off, i am talking about 16 to 17 year olds. Not child accounts.
The clydesdale bank is not in England so. Thats great news for us in England!!

Visa electron and Solo are types for under 18 yes. But a switch is a multi-function card which solo and visa electron are not.

But Natwest offer this. Where every other bank except HSBC which i would not advise to anyone does.

Ok to re-phrase. Natwest is the best option for !!!!!16-17!!!!!! year olds in England.

To be frank. Banks offer !!!!e to young adults 16+

You say not meeting special critera.. Well no anyone under 18 can get a solo or visa electron... But they can't just get a switch card!

Yorkshire Bank = English equivelant of Clydesdale Bank

Both offer Maestro to people under 18, and under 16 for that matter.

Lloyds TSB offer Visa Debit NOT Visa Electron (which is actually better than Maestro/Switch) to those 16 or over

So how do Natwest provide the best option then?

As for the ISA, NS&I offer a 5.3% Cash ISA to anyone aged 16 or over
  • I phoned Lloyds TSB to check.
They said i would be offered a VISA ""ELECTRON"" so how is that a proper visa??

Best place for an isa though is Lloyds with a rate of 8.00%

No, that's a savings account, their ISA has a rate of 4.75%.

Proud to be dealing with my debts

They actually issue a 2-1 control card which is a cashpoint and visa debit card (no cheque guarantee) which in effect makes it the same as the old electron which they no longer issue!

I'd say that Nationwide Smart Account is the best!

    ATM card & 5%

I had it and used it for years, Good branch network too.

Used it in both Scotland and England

Its got a standard sort code, so can be used for paying money from part time jobs, grannys etc

    ;)

Otherwise, if you need Debit Card, I'd say LloydsTSB.
Not bad rate and you get a decent bank card.

Again, branches all over plus you can use the post office to pay things in.

I started this as i feel Natwest offer everything a student need with a brillant student account. For when you get on the road to uni. So it would be handy if you already had an account.

    Plus Natwest are everywhere.

    Everyones experiences differ.

In my case, I would have said that Natwest are definately at the 'poorer' end of the big 4 banks and apart from a few exceptions (i.e. their Step account for people looking for a very basic account) their product range leaves much to be desired--> certainly if I had a choice between HSBC and Natwest, I would choose HSBC every time.

Also, of the big 4 banks, it seems that HSBC are the most willing to judge people on the basis of their account behaviour and not refuse you just because the 'computer' says no.

As regards going to university, it makes no difference if you have had an account with a bank before or not. In fact, it can make life much harder if your 'home branch' is not on or near your university - as they won't be used to dealing with students (and this applies for any bank)

    Regards
    Sunil
PS: I hold both HSBC and Natwest accounts..

Correct, but the big advantage it has over Electron is acceptance :)

That and Visa Debit have embossed numbers, printed numbers rub off too easily :D:D

As for cheque guarantee, OK if you need that fair enough but I'm never in a position where I need to write a cheque, never mind a guaranteed one. (Isn't it illegal to provide someone under 18 a cheque guarantee card since you have say £50/100 guaranteed per cheque, 10-20 cheques in a book, £500-2000 unauthorised credit?)
  • Hello.

Right i am totaly mistaken. I am sorry to anyone i offended.
Walked into Lloyds today.. All i can say is. This the best service i have ever had!! Made me a personal appointment. A. They treated me like an adult. Well i'll be paying in what some people earn a month.
    B. they were quick
    C. They had a private room i was taken into.

So yeah i would recommend Lloyds tsb as a bank for students!
