TallGirl's 5 year plan to own a 2nd home in her homeland

Right here we go I have now had a diary on here since Jan 2008 and it was all about becoming mortgage free before I was 40. I am now 40 & 1 week so its time to have a rethink and focus on my next goal and this time I am having a 5 year plan.
While we were on holiday in Denmark we went to look at Summer Houses (wooden ones on a small plot of land usually by the beach – not beach huts). You cannot live there permanently but they have all amenities so are can be used all year round and can of course be rented out. They vary in price but you can get a nice 3 bed room one for about 1.2million kroner which is about £140,000 at today’s exchange rates (8.50kr to the £). We used to own a 2 bed house and I would like something like this http://www.diba.dk/Bolig/Liste/Sag/?id=400&sagsnr=KBM10029 looks like the house is no longer on the web so have found another one I like this one http://www.edc.dk/en/Sag/?pid=47178052
Also this one is quite nice only 1.1 million kroner 3 bedroom one in the anex
http://www.edc.dk/en/Sag/Billeder/?pid=47100535
It’s 2 bed and in the same street as ours used but it is 1.6 million kroner but its new build and out of bricks so not much maintenance. Prices went crazy on Summerhouses in Denmark but they have dropped and are predicted to drop further. My mum sold our 2 bedroom place 10 years ago for about £45,000.
We usually stay with family when we are in Denmark so there is no need for us to have our own base but my parents are both getting older and currently we can only really stay with my mum as dad’s place us quite small. Actually he owns the whole house but rent two storeys out. My sister lives about 2 hours away from my parents so its fine for us to stay with her but it would be nice with a base around where I used to live e.g. where my two good friends still lives and at the moment both my parents. As you might know my mum’s partner is terminally ill with emphysema and my mum have mentioned selling up when he is gone and move to near my sister.
The plan is to save up £60,000 by April 2015 by using our ISA’s each year.
Current ISA savings £12,545
Still to save 10/11 £5000 (DH’s ISA)
Then 4 full years of ISA’s £10,200 between us (if the limit stays the same) = £40,800
That should mean £45,800 still to save making it £58,345 in April 2015 (not taking any interest into account.
That should work out at about £800 a month between DH and me and I have £1100 left after my ongoing bills each month and out of that I only have to pay ½ food and things for myself so it should be perfectly doable. I also get a Christmas Bonus and maybe a performance bonus so the £5000 by March 2011 should be safe and DH is fully on board.
I shall also be making a major over haul of my fitness and weight but more of that in the next post.

6 years ago when we got married I weighed 11 stone. I do not think I can get down to that but I am currently 13.9.2 which is way too much and quite a bit since Christmas maybe as much as a stone. My mum noticed and said so when I saw her and seeing my other 40 year old peers looking nice and slim made me realised I need to stop this our I shall put on a stone every 6 months.
Never been on a real diet before so not sure if I shall join any clubs or anything like that. Will get more fit and use the gym at least twice a week and play golf once a week. That means exercising at least 3 times a week. I will use this post to keep track of diet and fitness. Wine and beer will have to go maybe not completely but will need to cut down.

If you like to eat meat, then try this diet plan: http://www.tenyearsthinner.com/
I used to weigh 14st 8lbs and within 4 weeks I had dropped to 13st 3lb. The curious thing is that I now cant put on weight, no matter what I do. I sit in the office eating catering bags of Revels and yet get on the scales and my weight doesnt budge from 13st3lb. Its weird, but in a good way.0 -
