Your DH isn't alone. I'm sure there is a link between testosterone and fashion sense: The higher one is, the lower the other is bound to be.

My husband (lovely, hard-working, funny, clever, kind etc) has very little fashion sense. Luckily he values comfort so the jeans, smart shoes and business shirt combo isn't one he favours. However elderly sportswear is......I mean Euro 96 top, Ron Hills (v. nasty running tights....google 'em:D ) and 5 year old white trainers stained green by lawn mowing. This is his outfit of choice for Saturdays.

Of course I sometimes suspect he dons the ensemble to ensure I'm so ashamed of his appearance that I choose to do the Asda run on my own :rotfl:

Thanks Hermia I take your point but I dont ram it down his neck, I would just like him to find something else to wear!!!

It has been 13 years, a nice jumper or cardigan really does it hurt that much???
He has brought me clothes in the past and although it didnt take even a yard of material to make the clothes he buys me just to please my man I will wear them!!!!!

I've had people telling me what to wear, and I dug my heels in even more, thought if I wore something different everyone would make a fuss (even compliments aren't always helpful)...as soon as people stopped making a big deal of things I was more comfortable trying new things out, does it sound like he could be the same?

My fella actually has decent fashion taste - for a straight bloke. ;)

Now my ex - oh boy was that another tale.

He would wear grandad v-necked sweaters with holes in, brogues (sp?), shirts that were practically threadbare (usually designer rip-offs purchased on holiday in Turkey), Jeremy Clarkson style jeans...

I don't think he ever actually bought any new clothes the whole time we were together (2+ years) - they were either cast-offs from his brother or stuff his mum picked up at auction.

I take it he always dressed this way? I have literally NEVER seen my bloke in anything other than jeans and an array of different band t-shirts, although I know he wears 'work clothes' just because he has to. No, he is not a teenager! I would like to take him shopping, partly I'd like if he had some similar things but a bit smarter, in case we want to go somewhere where you need to dress up a little bit more, but also because he detests shopping so won't go and therefore keeps needing new things to replace the truly deceased stuff. However I don't go on at him, I fell in love with him the way he is and honestly wouldn't want him to completely change his 'look'.

It does sound like you keep on at him about it quite a bit, especially with buying him things you want him to wear, when he's comfortable how he is and may not be comfortable in the clothes you'd like him to wear. Leave him be, at least for a while. Then maybe there's a compromise of some kind, for instance broadly the things he likes but a slightly more up to date style of them? And just always tell him when you do like something he wears. Like another poster got at, more carrot than stick.

I've also by now come to the conclusion that it is nigh impossible to find a man who does not in some way or other completely annoy or embarrass you.

TBH I had no "fashion sense" before metting my other half. I was pretty content to wear george jeans and george trainers for that matter. But she has transformed my wardrobe now and when I look in there I now see all these different designer labels and I quite happily just pick from that lot. So now its armani jeans and desiel jeans ect ect. I also like black trousers....just now she has got me "better" ones lol -
So how did she achieve this ?
Simple - She bought me some "choice" items for my Birthday's and Xmas and stuff like that. She knew that I am the type of person who will wear that knitted jumper that Aunty X sent me for xmas even if it's just the once to please said Aunty X. She calculated that once I had felt the comfort of the nicely fitting designer lables that I would be won over......She was right lol. But I still wear my cheap and cheerfull stuff when I am working...but since my working involve being on building sites and the like she is quite happy with the situation now as am I.
TBH with us men we either "get it" or we just don't bother too much. I always looked smart and clean when in public lol, but never bothered with labels.

Definitely a fortnight in a nice coastal town in Italy or south of France, so he sees its ok for straight men to look good.(Alternatively BURN everything in his wardrobe except the good stuff you have bought him :) or start dressing yourself in grungey stuff and see how he feels)

Dave, it doesnt have to be designer labels, lots of decent clothes in M and S now, let alone places like House of Frasers own label. Even ASDA do a nice line of cord jeans - OH got himself some for work.

@ SavvySue Does it annoy you or are you just used to it now? Have you ever asked him about it?
Oh, I'm used to it now, and TBH I'm not the height of fashion myself, we both put comfort first!

And if I tell you that when we married, he was wearing horn-rimmed NHS specs, and I've got him out of THOSE! :rotfl:

His hair looks better than it did, too, because he had a floppy fringe. He didn't like to have it too short in case he was mistaken for a squaddie or a skinhead, but a hairdresser friend said it would be fine to clipper it all off, just not too short, so now it's short, I clipper it for him at regular intervals, never less then 1/2" long though. The boys are all doing that now too, but they let it grow quite long in between haircuts!

I have condemned some of his 'old friends', much to his distress. He had t-shirts he'd had when he was a scout, they no longer fitted, they were completely washed out, and they looked TERRIBLE! Mercifully he very rarely wears t-shirts, because he gets too hot. Never wears jumpers either - at one stage it was very difficult to buy cardigans because they were very out of fashion.

I pick up 'casual' shirts in charity shops, silk for preference. He looks good in some of them. He'd look good in all of them if I could be bothered to iron on a regular basis!

And to reassure all those who don't like business shirts with jeans: DS3 has adopted this look most of the time. Mind you if I checked with him, he'd probably say they were NOT business shirts, business shirts would be QUITE different, but they look like business shirts to me.

You can read about my difficulties with him here, if you like!

@ Geri 1965 Thanks for you 2p worth  but I think you are getting it a little twisted, How can u tell he is Clearly Happy? And that it's out of order to Nag him and get angry????

I think thats what annoys me sometimes about this forum now, any thread over a couple of posts long theres always some bright spark to add something with no actual reference to the subject.:(:(

Well if he wasn't happy with his clothes, he would change them, surely?

As for thinking it's out of order, that is my opinion. If you only want replies from people who agree with you, you should have said. Otherwise I am entitled to reply, since it's a discussion board and discussions can involve opinions other that your own.
