Suits for a wedding ...

OK, I may be about to display a complete lack of dress sense, but here goes.
I have 3 boys, 23, 20 and 18. The older two are not noted as followers of fashion, but the younger one actually cares what he looks like.
The eldest has a suit, bought specifically for a friend's wedding. It's black.
The youngest has a suit, bought for an inter-school debating competition. However he borrowed DS1's suit for the school ball (with permission), because 'it was a better sort of suit for that'.
We are all going to a wedding in September, and DS3 said "You'll have to buy me a new suit because I won't be able to wear DS1's because he'll be wearing it." When I asked what was wrong with his own suit, I learned that he can't POSSIBLY wear it to a wedding, because it is a BUSINESS suit, and it has PIN-STRIPES.
So, is there some law against young men wearing pin-stripe suits to a wedding?
If it's not a complete crime against humanity, I may suggest DS2 wears it, because it will probably fit as well as anything, and he'll find that preferable to a suit-buying trip ...
And DS3 can then buy a suit which suits him for these purposes, and we'll have 3 suits he can pick and choose from.
I should point out here that DH will be wearing the only suit he's got, which is grey ... It comes out for weddings, funerals, and occasional preaching engagements.
And if DS3 didn't HAVE a suit, I'd have been quite prepared to take him in smart trousers, shirt and tie!

Then there's a looser cream silk with a floral turquoise thing going on, which looks good under my turquoise Jaques Vert jacket (the shoulders are a bit odd without it but I might be able to work out what's going on there and fix it). Not sure what bag / sandals would go with that but I did see a small turquoise bag when I walked past Animal yesterday. Otherwise it would probably be the grey bag and sandals again.
I know, you're all thinking "But where's the pink?" Well, I could probably borrow the blue and pink cotton dress I wore to DS1's graduation from my sister. But my 'best' clothes don't feature as much pink as my normal clothes, and tend to be not so smart separates.
Of course, if between now and the end of September I see a stunning pink silk dress in a charity shop, I'll wear pink ... :rotfl:
I have another wedding to go to in August, no overlap among the guests, the boys won't be at that, but I can do a trial run.
And no, I'm not planning to wear a hat. I can't imagine the bride's mother will.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Thanks, but were any of them at WEDDINGS when those photos were taken? He can't wear a pin-stripe suit to a wedding, apparently.
One of my colleagues looked dubious when I mentioned it this morning. I'll run it past the younger ones later in the week ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

 Don't think so lol sorry0 -
Just another quick update: we went to our first wedding of the season, without our boys, and I lost count of the number of men in pinstripe suits, some of them students and therefore of an age with DS3. :rotfl:
And then, DS2 went suit-buying with his friends, and has come back with several bargains from M&S, including - shock, horror - a pinstripe suit! :rotfl: :rotfl:
My outfit worked well, except that I laddered my only pair of grey tights. Fortunately I was at home (between the service and the evening 'do'), and fortunately I found a pair of neutral tights rather than my usual black. But it means I must go on a tights buying expedition, which is a bit of a nightmare because I am tall and broad in the beam!
Walking back from the service we passed a couple of charity shops, and as it was raining we thought we might as well pop in. DH now has some smart trousers which fit, apart from his suit trousers, and I have a nice necklace for my outfit which isn't as tight as the one I have been wearing. I also have a larger bag which goes perfectly, so probably need to source new sandals. Shhh, don't tell DH!
They also had a stressball in the shape of a cow so we had to buy that for DS3! He likes cows ...
I have lost the invitation for the September wedding so need to find that or I won't know where we're going!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

This what I'm going to do at my niece's wedding next month; including a smart jacket of course
I never wear suits, so being the [STRIKE]tight-fisted git[/STRIKE] money-saving expert that I am, I usually go for this optionMarching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
If you aren't part of the wedding party I think it's perfectly acceptable not to wear a suit jacket. I've also noticed waistcoats (without a jacket) are increasingly popular too.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I only own a pin stripe suit, did not even think that it may not be acceptable, although due to my diet it is no longer the best fit and seems a little tight these days, i wear it on all occasions, weddings, funerals and even the occasional court appearance.0

It seemed to me yesterday that pretty much anything goes for the young men, although all were smart. So smart I had some trouble working out which ones I knew! :rotfl: DH was a bit on the informal side, because I didn't make him wear a tie. This paid off because there weren't any formal photos (although we'd only have been in the background anyway.
Oh, I need to check whether DS1 or DS2 need new black shoes. DS2 says he only has one pair of shoes, and they are black, which probably means he needs a new pair!
And apparently DS1's trousers are a bit small, have been ever since he bought the suit, but DS2 is not up for doing a straight swap so I'm not sure how to resolve that. No point suggesting DS1 goes in smart trousers: the ONLY pair of smart trousers he possesses are his suit trousers!
The other piece of good news which I failed to report in the early hours was that turquoise is in. There was a lot more of it than there was of pink, so I blended nicely.Signature removed for peace of mind0
