There is an increase in supply at the moment....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I agree with the posts above.
I would not feel too guilty about the chain as your hand is being effectively forced here.
Therefore I agree, hold your nerve and threaten to put it back on market (and mean it) it sold once. Yu can take off up to 25k so if your not in a rush you will sell it again.0 -

Our house was origanlly on at £375000, she initally negotiated an offer of £362500, but she hadn't sold her own house, so ours stayed on the market, hers eventually sold, but for less than she expected so she reduced her offer to £350000. So today we have been waiting to see what her response was ... she basically went AWOL and no-one could contact her all day! Finally around 5pm we got a call from our solicitors saying that she had got in contact with her solicitors and would issue 'further instructions' tomorrow!! So I have no idea whether it's going ahead, or not!
Some people are unbelievable! I would like to tell her where to go, but as we didn't have too much other interest in the house I'm worried it may take another age to find another buyer, so I guess we're just waiting to see whether it is a definite 'no'.

I would agree that if it is noticeable that house prices are falling and you had agreed this price some months ago, maybe to review the selling price, but in the exchange day is too much. She's is probably bluffing.0 -

She has probably spent the weekend looking at other houses to see what her alternative options are before coming to a decision, hence why she was unobtainable.0 -
My heart goes out to you. House buying is stressful enough without having to deal with this degree of unsurety and unreliability on the buyers part.
Just goes to show that if we followed the scottish house buyers laws where an acceptance of an offer is legally binding, we would have the protection we needed from unscupulous buyers.

Uhmmm I don't buy that. If she was looking, she would have been looking weeks before the exchange and not asking for £20K discount and look for properties over the weekend (that's my view anyway). I am a FTB is my dilemma that if I put an offer now and house prices start to fall I'd be in negative equity straightaway, so I can "somehow" understand the buyer. Although I believe I wouldn't do that.0 -

Of course they could give the falsely inflated price to get the house on their books then say that they need to reduce the price after a few weeks so getting the house and selling at a realistic price...
This is not the same.
You would get nowhere as a buyer saying well actually someone has told me that the item I bought from you is not worth now what I paid for it despite it being as described and nothing wrong with it.If everyone were to do that Ebay would soon cease to exist.0 -
Looking at this impartially I think the purchaser either no longer is in position to buy, or has changed her mind.
Either way she will string the seller along for a week or two before withdrawing.
Put the house back on the market at the price already agreed, and tell her what you have done, saying if at anytime she wishes to exchange at the agreed price you will consider her offer.
If you don't do this you will lose a couple of weeks of re-marketing your house.0
