    They DO!!!

It's frankly stupid not to wait until the cars have stopped.

Why if a car is 50m away and I am on the crossing they do not have the right to mow a person down and they are further enough away to stop.
It means do not step out if a car is like 10m away, basically cross when it looks safe to do so.
And drivers are meant to stop a soon as you face the road at the crossing.

Otherwise you just may as well not use them and just cross any part of any road.

You are missing the fact who has the right of way when someone stands at a crossing.

It is not you as long as you don't stop.

Jesus christ really. You do take things to the extreme.

A pedestrian has right of way on a pedestrian crossing yes. BUT, that does not dissolve them of all responsibility to check whether it's safe to step out.

That's all I have ever said.

If you have enough time to cross before the car gets there, then damn well cross.

If you don't, wait for the car to stop, then cross.

It cannot get any simpler. All this 50m away stuff is rubbish as it all depends on the conditons. They may not have the right to mow you down, you may have the right of way....but why would are you banging on and on about exercising this right of way, and then saying it's all the drivers who are dangerous. You are putting yourself in danger by exercising your "right of way".

The only time I have issues is when kids run onto them forcing you to break harshly, which is simply dangerous, or when you have no real chance to see the person before they take two steps onto the road without bothering to even look. That's all I said to start with, they need education...to which all this "no, they have right of way" stuff came out.

I aint arguing this anymore. It's plain common sense.

What if it's a car rather than a van, does that make a difference?

Again who said that, I simply said some drivers don't stop for crossing. Once you add kids, old people and drunks in the mix that is when it gets messy.

Again top distraction as I never said that and I am a driver and a pedestrian.

You really feel the need to defend everyones driving GD, I have said nothing outlandish at all. Just that some drivers dont care! can you really argue against that?
I bet everyone on this forum has stood on a crossing as car after car drives over ignoring them.
Their are laws and some seem to think the new rules are survival of the biggest (Car beats pedestrian, 4X4 beats car, Lorry beats 4X4 etc)

I see it every day I go to work GD so stop being a drama queen. No one has said it is all drivers, just that some don't care for some pedestrian rights to cross roads.
They are not sensible drivers GD they are dangerous drivers as the rules of the road mean nothing to them.
The only time I have issues is when kids run onto them forcing you to break harshly, which is simply dangerous
Don't you think you should be slowing down when you see them approaching a crossing? if they get to it before you you should have stopped.
I presume you don't pull out in front of cars a T junctions, or cars coming from the right at a round about. It is exactly the same principle the pedestrian at the crossing has right of way if they walk past it or not you should have slowed down enough to stop should they turn and look to cross.

But I will appologise for any children in the country who run out in front of you, making you break at a crossing how selfish of them.

Whilst I disagree that motorists are "persecuted", (just follow the rules - I find this usually keeps one out of trouble). many pedestrians and cyclists do seem to have taken leave of all common sense, or indeed any sort of brain funtion when it comes to crossing/using the road.

CYCLISTS - why is the red light not for you, you !!!!? Everyone else has bloody stopped and so should you - you are a VEHICLE, you therefore need to obey the rules for VEHICLES. True, it is unlikely (though not impossible), that I will die if you hit me as you go through a red light, but you still could seriously injure me. Also, those of you who go through a CROSSROADS on red, is saving 2 mins really worth the possibility of being hit side on by the 188 bus?
I firmly believe that people should having cycling licences.

And all this guff about being hit by a lorry when turning left...here's one - Don't go down the side of the lorry in the first place! STAY BACK WHERE HE CAN SEE YOU. May take a few extra seconds, but you won't find youself squished like a badger on the A1.

PEDESTRIANS: Why is it okay for you to cross without looking (even at a zebra - cars have this thing called "stopping distance", so they can't just magically come to an immediate halt, when you step out inches in front of them) or when you just f*cking meander down the road like you're on the front at Blackpool. This is a ROAD, cretin, you will get run over. And get off your p*ss*ng phone as well.

I am a cyclist and a pedestrian and I p*sses me off that I am judged on the actions of other cyclists and pedestrians who have had their brains removed, just as I suppose it must anger motorists to be judged on the actions of boy racers and bus drivers (although if you do park on the pedestrian crossing, I will punch your car as I cross).

Don't even get me started on people on public transport.

Jean Paul Satre had it right when he wrote "Hell is other people".
