The old diesels last forever if you look after them.
You have to be religious with the oil change.
The thing that goes on modern diesels is the turbo.
On a 100,000 mile car that's worth £1,000, spending £1,000 on a turbo with manifold is just mad, because the suspension or steerng rack might go next, so why bother.0 -

Another problem is that you have very little idea how well the previous owner looked after it - so you could be buying a whole heap of trouble.0 -

As you could with any used car, especially in this price range. IMO with sub-£2000 to spend I'd be looking at everything that's a suitable size and ignoring the type of fuel that it uses.0 -

So you'd be buying the petrol variant pretty much every time then?
As a diesel version will almost always cost significantly more than the equivalent petrol variant.0 -

Probably - but saying any diesel could be presenting a world of trouble also applies to any petrol - a used car is a used car regardless.0 -

This applies to every second hand car on the market, whether it's diesel or petrol, 10k or 100k, french, german, japanese, korean, etc etc.
