Petrol vs Diesel

I'm looking at getting a new car and I'm toying with the idea of getting a diesel but have never had one before
I do around 30 miles a day, I'd say around 65% of it on motorways
Is diesel going to be a good idea for me?
Any advice would be great!

As a diesel car owner for more than 15 years, using a mixture of A and B roads, I would say diesel is your friend. The cost of diesel v petrol at the garages has now come back to an acceptable level again, so on balance I would say yes, go for it. And use a quality fuel, and try and avoid supermarkets. I use the local Shell garage 99% of the time.
I have an 11 year old 406 HDi, and around the doors, get 40+mpg, and on a stretch I can get up to 55mpg. In fact I've just bought the wife a Xsara HDi with the same engine in, albeit the 90bhp version, because her works have just relocated a further 15 miles away (30 miles extra round trip.) and that will be 85% motorway.
So that's the argument for the pro lobby m'laud. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -

If you read car forums like Honest John or most diesel forums, most tend to agree that supermarket diesel is not of the same quality as mainstream garages. It's still up to British Standard, but there are reports that people have encountered problems when filling up at Morrisons, Asda etc.
Better to spend an exta 1ppl and run quality imo. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -

The common thought being supermarkets use lesser quality fuel. In fact often the fuel is the same fuel and from the same tankers. If a good proportion of diesel engines can run on veg oil instead of diesel with little hit on performance or mpg I don't see anything in the argument myself. Use wherever is cheapest.
So are you sayin I should use veg oil instead? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

On old diesel cars.
If it were to be used on my HDi, it would kill it. Fact. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I'm thinking 2002/030

What is your budget, and what cars have you got in mind? That's my mutt in the picture above.0

It's best to search the net for models of cars suitable to run on veg oil. If you try it in most modern cars it will kill the pump and injectors etc, basically all the expensive to replace stuff.0
