I'd imagine you only 'got' one once you completed your order and just putting one in your basket doesn't reserve it while you complete your details. From what #162 is describing it sounds like they added to their basket, took a few minutes updating their account details, then by the time they confirmed their order all stock had gone.
Maybe Amazon need to implement something like the Ticketmaster website for high-demand products, where the item is reserved when you select it but you only have a few minutes to complete your order before it's released for someone else to buy.0 -
Ok. Here's the deal.
I, like many others, selected First Class as detailed in the FAQ which I have read already. This resulted in a delivery date of 14th-15th December.
On two other dedicated gaming blogs other people were saying the same thing and someone noticed that if you changed the delivery option, and then changed it back to first class your delivery estimate changed from the 14th December to the 8th December.
Along with many of the other people I tried it, and you know what? The order wasn't cancelled, I didn't lose my place in the queue, the world didn't end. The delivery date changed from the 14th December to the 8th December.
This morning Amazon sold a set number of pre-orders equal to their allocation of Wii from Nintendo. No more, no less. There is no allocationpriority to change, no position in any queue to lose. You have one or you do not have one. It's simple.
Second time I've tried to help on this place and had it shoved in my face. I can't be doing with this crap.0 -
I had a spare Wii preorder (we actually managed to get 2 in the amazon.co.uk preorder window), so I thought I'd try this.
It worked fine, went straight to the 8th.
Got two emails through, one saying it had been changed to first class, one saying it had been changed to express (I chose express to be sure)
Now the account shows 8th no probs.
For the record, I also wrote to amazon about the problem and they said:
"Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by
the estimated dispatch date information.
Due to a technical error, the estimated date that is shown in "Your
Account" for this item was incorrect, and our technical team is
working on this issue.
We build our catalogue on information from many sources and our
ordering system automatically estimates dispatch and delivery dates
for each item.
Regarding your Order Status:
Your order has not been dispatched because "Nintendo Wii Console
(Includes Wii Sports)" has not yet been released.
This video game is currently scheduled for release on December 08,
2006, and we will notify you if we find that this date changes.
As soon as we receive stock of this item from our supplier, we will
dispatch your order.
Further, rest assured that, your console should be dispatched in
time for delivery on December 8. We will work closely with our
delivery partners to ensure, as far as possible, to dispatch on
December 08, 2006.
At the time of dispatch, we'll send you an e-mail message confirming
the date, contents and method of delivery.
As per our standard policy, we will not debit money from your
payment card or bank account until just before we dispatch your
order.
We appreciate knowing about any errors that may find their way into
the ordering system, and customer feedback such as yours helps us to
continue to improve the service we provide.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk."0 -
I have e mailed them too but not heard back yet.
Had a reply... nice to know I'm an "esteemed customer"!
Please accept our sincere apologies for this apparent mix-up. Due to
a technical error, the estimated date that is shown in Your Account
for this item is incorrect.

We would like to let you know that our ordering system automatically
re-estimates dispatch and delivery dates based on any order
revisions you apply; some will work in your favour, some will not
(e.g. cancelling an item or upgrading your delivery preference may
bring your dates forward, adding items or downgrading your delivery
preference will usually push your dates back).
Therefore, we advise you not to make any updations to the order.
It is never our slightest intention to trouble our esteemed
customers like you. I once again apologise for the inconveniencve
this may have caused to you.
Please rest assured, we will dispatch the order to you as soon as we
receive the copies from our supplier.0 -
Tried to get one on Amazon this morning for my brother. No luck, can't believe they sold out so quickly. Apparently Woolworths are still promising for week of release, though for soem reason I'm a bit dubious about that.0

I was sitting pressing refresh every 2 seconds on that page to get the order underway first. I am sitting on a fast internet connection and im a dab hand at computers so i know what im doing and where to click.
From my experience, they had ALL sold out in under 30 seconds. Its a pain because i seemed to be on the ball about it and would find it hard to believe many people could of done it much faster!
Annoying thing about it is how many people did get a successful order to only slap it on ebay and make a quick buck, when i actually wanted to own one! (not saying MSE'ers!!)0 -

Yeah, you needed to use the "one click order" thing to have a chance, I think.
(even if you look on amazon.com there's a little note there that says that they sold out in under a minute, which for the whole of north america is quite impressive).
I clicked it twice and was given errors, was about to give up, tried a third time and got in.
and I too hate people who make money out of these things.0 -

Oooh, get her
Look, if you've messed about with your order and get it then fine. The advice from dedicated money-saving sites regarding Amazon is to leave well alone once you've ordered, otherwise orders are known to be mysteriously cancelled or otherwise unfulfilled.
Just sharing some friendly advice0 -
stugib wrote:Fully agree, at the risk of taking the conversation of on a tangent on the ethics of eBay and capitalism I'd ban sales of Wii for the next few weeks, though eBay won't care. Mind you the shops are just as bad - two of my colleagues ordered from HMV/Game, one with a deposit and both of them had their orders cancelled.
Ebayers - Don't get me started0
