Yes some parents are to blame but I also think that society as a whole has a responsibility as well. The media portray life as you can have it all, you should want it all and anything goes.

When I told my 13 year old off the other day her reply to me was "what do you expect I'm a teenager"!

I agree that it is mainly the parents fault however i also believe that a lack o discipline in schools also contributes to the lack of manners as does society.

  • i'm sorry but it as the old saying goes, manners cost nothing.

children without manners is one of my pet hates!

i won't lie and say my kids are the best behaved kids in the world (actually probably far from it lol) but they have always been brought up to say please. thankyou etc.

my little man surprises alot of people (he's 3 now) - from when he began to talk he would always use manners, if someone sneezed he would say blessyou, the person would reply thankyou, he would then reply 'you're welcome'
even if we are walking in the street and some random person sneezes he shouts blessyou

I saw a child who could not have been older than 8 call his mother a f***ing c**t the other day. It was not met with anything stronger than "behave!"

I said the F word in front of my folks, once, and had my computer taken away for a month. Disgraceful behaviour
  • Has anyone been watching BBC3's "Young, Dumb and Living off Mum"? Shows what happen to kids who were beyond spoilt rotten growing up, never told "no", given money on demand etc. A bunch of them, now over 18, have been stuck in a house together, given the equivilent of JSA to live off and no parents to wait on them hand and foot. I've never wanted to slap a bunch of people so much in my life! In fact slapping wouldn't be strong enough. They all need something sharp shoved up their backsides until they learnt to grow the f*** up.

My feeling is that a lot of this is down to there being too much emphasis on kids these days, the world seems to revolve around the needs of children and in the eyes of some, they can do no wrong.

I'm not suggesting we should return to the age 'don't speak unless you are spoken to', but kids and their opinions/actions/requirements are not more important than adults.

Well, I'm not sure about the 'lunatic right', but I do know that the literacy rate was much higher in 1895.

How many kids were in school in 1895 and not out working?

Plus bearing in mind that the english language is ever changing. Cuppa is now officially a word for example.

Although in general i get your point. The most common ones people seem to get confused with are where/were (why i have no idea as they are pronounced differently) and also they're/there/their.

While i personally understand the differences between the above words, i do realise that not everyones strong point is english and that yes, some people are just better than others at acedemics.

I personally am very lazy when it comes to texting. I do use txt tlk purely for ease (in speed and conserving message space so i can fit more in the message without being charged for 2 - or more - messages)

How are you meant to teach your children manners when people nowadays have none to show. The amount of doors that have been slammed in our faces , the amount of times iv struggled with a buggy with the doors , the amounts of times people have barged past my 2 year old sending her flying , is it no wonder that kids these days dont have manners?

I have manners, i open doors for people , keep them open for people , please and thank you , help people accross the road , ask if they are ok when they look like they could do with some help but is that going to be enough when we are shown no manners back? i carry my little girl in a sling a lot , the amount of rude comments i get to our face is unreal.

Only a couple of days ago my little girl has an old man scare her to the point she was a shaking wreck. We was sat on the bus and she had a terror moment (like night terrors but during the day) she cant help it, its the medication shes on , i was dealing with it fine , trying to calm her. Every one could see i was doing my best , an old lady said to me 'your coping really well , well done!' which was nice and i was explaining to this lady why she was like it when this old man turned around and started shouting at my little girl , who is only 2 , scaring her half to death. Shes a spoilt brat, needs a good smack so she doesnt open that mouth again , and waving his hand infront her face. We had to get off the bus in the end because she had got herself into such a state she was going to trigger a fit. I can understand it was a lot of noise
but every one could see i was dealing with it , people noticed how she was laughing the second the terror started so must of realised that something wasnt right and it wasnt normal. I got off at the next stop before i told the man what for. Its sad when an old man thinks he has the right to scare a small child :(

Now how am i meant to teach her manners when no one respects her?
