I just had a similar experience in the supermarket at lunchtime - I was buying one of their curry-meal-for-two packs, quite clearly had £6.99 printed on the box many times over. And it rang on at £7.49. Luckily I saw it before she carried on. I pointed this out and she said 'I'll have to call the manager over to change it'. 'Fine' I said, 'I've got time'. 'But it's only 50p' she replied. 'But it's 50p I'm not donating to you' I said 'Call him over'.
She seemed reluctant until I started quoting how it was an offence to charge more than the advertised price for something under the Trading Standards...
Maybe they run training courses for supermarket staff on how to get more money out of unsuspecting customers!
If that was Tescos (and I think a couple of the other biggies do it too), then don't complain at the till - pay and then go to customer services - company policy is full refund and keep the item. I once walked out with about 10free CDS after their BOGOFFER didnt go through!0 -

Sainsbury's alas. Don't think they do the same policy, or I would have been in there with bells on!0 -
I work in a shop and since we're quite small, we rarely have a lot of change in our tills.
Most of our items are rounded, but a couple a £x.99.
We ran out of pennies one day, and I hadnt realised, so when the till popped open I just took out a 2p and APOLOGISED to the customer and said I'm sorry I dont have any pennies in the till. And she said oh but I dont have one either, and I actually said Oh no, thats not what I mean,I'm giving you 2p instead of 1p as its our fault!
And she told me that was actually a shock as most places expect you to just accept it and walk off without it!
Now I can't see why anyone who works within retail can ever contemplate that excuse, "It's only 4p". Its not your 4p to argue the t*ss over so hand it over!
Cheeky b*tch.
Definitely complain to Tesco! I've now done it on 3 occassions and had at least a £5 gift card each time. One was even £10Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

oh they certainly do! I used to work for Sainsbury's in customer service - generally it was full refund, no questions asked. One woman brought in a half drunk bottle of brandy, said it was 'off' and got another one free!
the only thing they're a bit funny about is frozen or fresh stuff (they say it's because you might not have kept it at the right temperature, etc. etc.) but chance your arm!:beer:0 -

That's so cheeky. I would have done exactly the same thing.
A friend of mine used to be a petrol pump attendant many years ago. He used to park his motorbike next to the pump. He would fill up people's cars, put the nozzle back, take payment, then watch them drive off. He would then pick up the nozzle and put a few drips into his motorbike tank, without depressing the trigger. He managed to get a few pints every day I think.
By doing this he was able to go to and from work without buying any petrol.
So those pennies would also add up for the cashier I imagine.
(Strangely, whenever I fill my car up now I always turn the nozzle upside down and get every last drop out if it.)0 -
A good while ago one of my friends bought a case of little stubby beer bottles in Sainburys and later, when drinking them, found one had broken. The box hadn't been wet at any point, so it must have happened before we bought them. He drank the others, and the next day took the broken one back to show customer services - they then gave him a whole new crate due to the one broken one!
(The girl was terrified, as obviously broken glass inside something you have bought is very bad - she asked if anyone was hurt and my friend replied 'yeah, I lost an arm' and the look on her face before the obvious falseness filtered through was wonderfully funny)0 -
I am the ultimate complainer when it comes to !!!!!! customer service, and feel free to complain. However this is NOT theft by Tesco as some people are saying.0

that is terrible. i would complain. if it happened to me i would be stunned that they would be so cheeky.
i once took a pack of ham back to sainsburys. i had bought it in the morning, opened it and made hubby a sandwich then noticed it had gone out of date the day before. took it back and they gave me £20 of vouchers. i was well chuffed. i treated myself to 2 bottle's of baileys which were on offer at 9.99.0
