Can't believe she'd tried to do that, so out of order regardless of the amount!

I just had a similar experience in the supermarket at lunchtime - I was buying one of their curry-meal-for-two packs, quite clearly had £6.99 printed on the box many times over. And it rang on at £7.49. Luckily I saw it before she carried on. I pointed this out and she said 'I'll have to call the manager over to change it'. 'Fine' I said, 'I've got time'. 'But it's only 50p' she replied. 'But it's 50p I'm not donating to you' I said 'Call him over'.

She seemed reluctant until I started quoting how it was an offence to charge more than the advertised price for something under the Trading Standards...

Maybe they run training courses for supermarket staff on how to get more money out of unsuspecting customers!

Similar vein, well maybe not, anyone else having problems getting the extra points that they offer for using your own bags? I think we got up to 5 shops before we had enough and complained.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. Twice now I've used my own bags (maybe they didn't like them because they were competitors bags, ha ha) and it's been a major hassle to get the points, managers called over etc.

Why run a campaign if you're not going to bother training staff properly?

... being brave for me, I just emailed customer service explaining the trouble i was having getting the points put on my clubcard.

My local Tesco Metro/Extra is in the town centre which is very busy at lunchtimes and where I would hate to cause a fuss holding other customers up.

Wonder if I will get a reply?
  • Can't believe these stories about cashiers saying "It's only 4p or 50p or whatever"- it's technically known as stealing! Definitely write a complaint and let us know what happens.

The same happened to me, in Tesco's - Paid at Till, walked 10 yards to Customer Services, where I was refunded whole amount, and allowed to keep the overpriced item. Still no excuse for the cashier in this thread, though.

  • It's really infuriating when people decide the change is too small to bother giving it to you - it's your change and only you can make such decisions!

It would be like her throwing away your lunch and saying "I wasn't hungry."
