Advice re best small sports car up to 6k

Hi any advice welcome
I am thinking about changing my Honda 4x4 for a two seater sports car. I need something reliable and reasonable to maintain / insure etc. I am a 40yr old female with full no claims.
My budget is up to 6000. I'm not that bothered about speed as I always keep to speed limits but would like something that looks good and is comfy and reliable. I also travel from Essex to York several times a year so need something that will be ok on motorways, but other than that it will be local journeys.
Thanks

Are you keen on a convertible?? my wife would not get in my car if i had the roof off as it would mess her hair up.
For 6K you could go MGTF, MX5, i have seen some RX8s for around that price also, although that is not a 2 seater, do you have any particular model in mind yourself???0 -
No 2 seater sports car (i assume you mean two seater convertible) is going to be that comfortable i'm afraid, however there are plenty that are comfortable enough not to be chore to use.
For the budget i think the answer has to be Mazda Mx5 everytime, reliable, cheap, aesthetically pleasing and fun to drive. Should hold the value pretty well too. Toyota MR2 is another possibility or a MGTF but neither are anywhere near the mx5 imo.0 -
The mazda mx5 1.6i would be my suggestion, great ride, reliable and fun to drive. I came close to buy it once but
the condition wasn't good, panel damaged and Cat D which the owner did not declared.
* Pretty unanimous then on the mx50 -
Another couple of possibilities are the Merc SLK and the BMW Z3, but obviously both would cost more to run than the rest of the cars mentioned above.0

Another vote for a MX5 just sold mine solid as a rock very reliable don't go near an MG bound to end in tears.
Managed 2 weeks camping and driving in the highlands and islands in mine <
great times.
Check out http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/ for lots of info.
You should be able to get a late low milage Mk 2.5 or an older Mk3 model (the current shape is Mk 3.5).
Comfort is a matter of opinion, and what you are used to. Compared with a 1972 Morgan its a world of luxury.
You don't seem to want more power but the Honda S2000 is a more serious car.0 -
mx5huggy - I dont expect anything but a vote for the mx5 from you

Wish that I was able to buy one a few years ago as my circumstance now changed so it's not practical to get one.
I only ever test drove it once when viewing the car, it feels good fun even on the brief drive I had.0 -
My friend just adored her little Audi TT, very cute, but it wasn't as reliable as she was hoping. My sis and husband had, yes, an MX5 and adored it but they had to park it on the road as they had no garage and twice some horrible, envious person(s) slashed the roof... Their insurance paid out both times but said - not again. Due to imminent arrival of baby, they sold it and bought sensible Honda Civic.0

Can't really comment on what the cars are like but you could probably find early examples of Audi TT (with leather and Xenons) within your budget and also a Honda S20000

3 Series BMW convertable.
320d or something..
(Good for mileage)0 -
For the budget an MX-5 has got to be the answer, you can get a lot of car for the money. Smiles per £ it can't be beaten just watch out for the old tin-worm. Once you can see it it's big bucks time (know this one from experience).
For a bit more you could get a shabby p-reg Lotus Elise.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0
