Co-Op Bank introduces monthly fee on some credit card

It appears from recent press reports that the Co-Op Bank is introducing a monthly fee of £2 per month from November this year for some of its credit cards.

It is from the Daily Mail so it should be taken with a pinch of salt

Specifically the Platinum Base Rate Tracker card and the Northern Rock BRT card which is provided by Co-Op Bank.

No word about Yorkshire BS cards doing this as they are provided by Co-Op as well, and smile have advertised that they will never have a fee, but it may be seen by others as a signal of encouragement?

Thin ends and wedges spring to mind.

Thanks to the consumer action group brigade, I think this will be the shape of things to come.

  • Well it was in the Daily Mail, as I said, and you can never believe anything you read in it :rotfl: Checked the Co-Op Bank website and there's nothing there about it yet - suppose they don't want to put people off taking out the card just yet.

The subject is a delicate one in respect to different camps,my advice is not to allow some posts to draw you into an argument, because their sole purpose will be to make bullets for others to fire and stand back and watch the fireworks,do not get drawn in.

  • This has now been mentioned in the Guardian. They are also upping the cash withdrawals cost to 2.5% (from 2%) with the minimum cost staying at £2.50.

Co-op leads the way in return of annual charges
  • Perhaps Credit Cards could be banned and we could all use debit cards instead!
