Seriously you don't need to spend long looking at odds. I look for probably a maximum of 15 minutes per bet. By then I've got bored so I just go for the best one I've found!
Yes, but even if I make £20 a year, it's £20 a year I wouldn't have had otherwise!
I've read through the guide over and over again, tried writing it down, working it out as I go along, working with real examples, and I just can't get my head around it. Perhaps I'd pick it up better in practice, but would need a guiding hand to show me which bets to practice on first! No longer visiting these forums.0 -
Kruger wrote:I've done quite a bit of match betting myself, and I would not want the responsibility of someone elses bets, sometimes matching the odds can be easy, only taking a couple of minutes, sometimes you can spend a couple of hours looking for something close, without wanting to sound harsh, YOU really need to read and understand the concept, devote the necessary time etc before asking others to advise.
I'm sure others will agree that once you get going you havent got the time to search bookies for which you have no vested interest in, albeit for a 10%-30% cut, theres the problem of delays between people viewing the replies here and the odds changing, and then people asking for more recent odds,
I'm going on a bit, but in short, its easy to make nice few hundred very easily, but you need to read and understand before you get involved.
I certainly see where you're coming from, but a couple of us just can't get to grips with it, no matter how hard we try. If you had to describe and explain the process in one short paragraph, what would you say?No longer visiting these forums.0 -

OK, paste the lines/paragraphs here and I'll try and simplify them for you.0 -
Could I suggest something before people start giving away all their profits?
If you want really good advice on matched betting, try the gambling offers loopholes board - those guys REALLY know their stuff and won't charge for being gambling advisors!
Download the matched betting spreadsheet from one of the sticky threads and play with it, then ask the guys to check your figures.

I've figured out that actually you'll make more money per unit time if you get the best rough match within 10 minutes than if you spend an hour matching odds anyway.LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

Feeling really thick but could you please explain the following:
I noticed mention of the word 'arb' coming up a few times on the matched betting threads - finally found "Guide to Arbitrage Betting". Is it the same thing as matched betting? Or is there a subtle difference?
Confused but determined....0 -

No arbs are a different thing. I would forget them until you have mastered matched betting.0 -

Hard to summarise in one paragraph, and probably the reason the newbie starter guide is quite lengthy, but Tim_L has done a top job of simplifying the concept, it just needs to be read a couple of times, and then if you have any questions post them in the newbie thread.
To get started on this I found cutting and pasting the newbie guide into word and then printing it out helped alot, I find it much easier to read and comprehend something on paper rather than a screen.I want to take on capitalism, but cant get the day off work....0 -

Try writing it down as you go along and also keep this in mind. It helped me.
When the newbie guide talks about 'laying' bets, try and think of it as you acting as the bookmaker. Laying a bet of £10 basically means me saying, 'Mrs S, if you come and bet £10 with me I'll give you odds of 2.5'!
I just can't get my head around it!A couple of weeks ago I blamed it on hormones, now I have to blame it on deteriorating grey cells!
I can't even 'get' SS's simple example
Maybe I should stick to bingo sites through Quidco :think:Leason learnt :beer:0
