I knowingly and willingly bought fakes thinking they would serve the same purpose as real GHDs. I got lucky because they did, so it wasn't an issue. Just goes to show that these things can pay off sometimes.

Werent you worried by all the horror stories of the fakes bursting into flames etc ?

To be honest, I'd never heard any! And if I believed the horror stories I read I'd never go out again :)

I'm with you joanne - the idea of owning any fake electrical product makes me shudder!

I avoid buying electricals from abroad - especially china - as they dont have to adhere to UK safety standards.

There was one on watchdog where a mother bought a charger for her son's DS........poor wee soul ended up dead because of it :(

In all fairness, she had no idea it was a "fake" charger as it had branding on it, but for people who just want to save money, is it really worth it at the price of the life of a loved one?

As for straightners. I've had 6 sets and i still use the set i got around 10 years ago :rotfl: They're a set of remmington ceramics - dont know the brand and i doubt they're still being sold. All the ones i've had since - that are way more expensive - just dont work as well (although i do have extremely thick hair)
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Oh yes , i remember watching that about the wee boy who died because of his DS charger...i think they went on holiday without his and so his mum bought him another replacement one....she wasnt to know.

    Its heartbreaking.

IF and thats a big IF , the scam company DO send me a set of ghd's im afraid they will be going straight into the bin , im just not willing to take the risk .

I have these and they are brilliant. Got mine before xmas half price in boots and there was a points offer too :D Id toyed with GHD's but these knock the spots off GHD for me. My hair is really thick and curly and I only need to use them once and my hair stays straight until its washed again, which could be up to a week.

Never mind the fake GHDs going into flames - I had an authentic pair that spontaneously combusted a few years ago!

And only half my hair was straightened - I had to blow out the flames to get the rest done! :)

I think it was a known fault and GHD replaced them without question.
