what a lovely day we had yesterday. It is so nice to be able to picture people while reading posts. So many people had brought generous things to share at the picnic and we enjoyed those, and our treasures that we bore home. The pork pies were delicious and such a good idea to cook them in patty tins. I had a mixture of bara brith and toasted croissant for breakfast this morning, both of which were delish - OH had an enormous chunk of bara brith. I was thinking of freezing some, but it isn't going to last long enough!

I am thinking of what to have our sausagey haggisy things with, and am looking forward to trying them.

And the lovely, unexpected surprise, that utterly bowled me over (you know who you are, you lovely, naughty people) I think I may well use to get a fig tree. Did I tell you about the water tanks? A friend round the corner had 2 water tanks taken out of her loft and replaced and offered them to me. I have planned to use one maybe for water lilies, not sure yet, and was contemplating if it would be a good idea to use the other for a fig tree. So now I def will

would love a copy of the picture(s), no prob for me posting them, look forward to seeing any of them (although not necessarily myself - don't like having my picture taken!)

got back in time to put another coat of polish on the village hall floor, and the brownies are safely seen in for their weeks semi camping in there. The chap who was supposed to put temp flooring in the ladies hadn't done it and OH and I went up there first thing to see what we could do to make it usable. But the chap had received a flea in his ear from the committee chairman and rushed up there at 9am this morning, so we have a temp solution, so at least the brownies can use the loos

been chilling out today otherwise, lots of jobs I should be doing, but mostly have my nose buried deep in The Girl Who Played With Fire - anyone else read it? I'm enjoying it hugely. Read the first one (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) from a charity shop find, loved it and ordered this one from the library. Can't wait to get my hands on the 3rd volume, but I'll have to as a friend has offered to lend it to me and I only see her once a month, and I only saw her on Thursday. Something to look forward to.
  • Just tested Kitty's tomato houmous...

My OH really liked it and said he would have it again. I liked it but found that it reminded me alot of the tangy bean pate and still deciding which one I prefer out of the two! :D

It sounds like you all had a lovely day. I am sorry I couldn't be there.

We are having a chicken using up lunch today too. I have one chicken breast and some leftover poached bits too. I am going to search the fields for mushrooms and see if I can cobble together one chicken and mushroom and one chicken and sweetcorn pie for the hungry hoards here.
Back to Kitty meals tomorrow I think.

    Hello,

I have finally cooked the first recipe: pasta funghi. I liked it, thumbes up from my 5 year old DD, not sure if BF was that impressed. We used some HM bread so soak up the last bits of the sauce, yum, yum...

Now I would like to use the rest of the olives before they sit in the fridge for too long. I was going to do calzone, tomato and olive pudding and perhpas the olive tapanade and have now loads of questions.

Could I please have some advice with the quantities for the calzone dough as I don't want to do the loafs, just the calzones.

When I put the tomato and olive pudding into the slow cooker, how much water if any should I put in there?

I don't have a food processor, would it be possible to bliz the olive tapenade in the blender?

    Thank you.

Lesley a fig tree sounds like a fabby idea!! Im glad that you are able to get one.

Poor mr lesley, I bet he just wants to hide away in a mens only club now lol!!

The next meet, because I am sure we need one, will have to be more chat focussed. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition and think I will get the cook book from amazon.

Murru, when I do the calzones I do 375g bread flour, 65g SR flour, 65g oats, 10g yeast (activated with 1 tsp sugar and some water), just under 1 tsp salt and 1/2 - 3/4 pint total water (start with 1/2 and add a bit more if mix is too dry). Just make sure you count the water used to activate the yeast out of your total water measurements. That makes enough dough for 4 calzones.

    Hope that helps!

arty, agreed about the next meet being more chat oriented. I think we could all just gab around a table for several hours, LOL...

weezl, there's so much frugal inspiration here! Mock black pudding (oatmeal sausages), potato pancakes, cheese pudding, pea puree pancakes...

    Evening,

    Pancakes make a usual mid-morning snack - 2 for breakfast 2 for mid-morning is a good for a 3yo.

Warm Tangy Bean Pate goes nicely with 1/2 a toasted cheese pitta.

Chicken dinner is absolutely gorgeous, I wasn't sure what Katie would make of BNS as she's not had it since she was first weaning - big hit. DH doesn't eat onions if he can see them so I blitzed them into the stock before thickening it up. As I was roasting my chicken thighs I put them on a rack over the onions, I then dribbled some of the fat from the roasting tin into the bubble & squeak. I haven't got DH's opinion as he is at work until 10pm.

Just got the Bacon & Onion Pudding to sort ready for tomorrow.

Aless - I love cooking, it's a chore in the week though but at weekends when I can potter I'm in my element.

Thank you for your replies. Any advice about the water amount in steaming would be appreciated.

It was bean curry for dinner and yet another thumbs up from DD. Next time I will cook the onions longer to get them softer, also perhaps add the garam masala in the end and then check the seasoning as I don't think I added enough (just had mildish chili powder and don't think I put enough in). Now I have 4 portions of it going into the freezer :j

Panzanella tomorrow and hoping to get some baking done as well. I will be trying Poohbear's soda bread and get some calzones into the freezer ready for the weekend.
