I'm in but only eating at home Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday then off to Scotland for the weekend with some friends
Very exciting.
So I am happy to try any of the above on any days I am told to.
I currently have a sourdough starter, well, starting I guess, on the windowsill so will be making some bread with my newly acquired Kenwood Chef (second hand!) so I can do the panzanella, do you think it matters if it is sourdough bread? I got the idea from the joy the baker blog I mentioned before, pretty much the only frugal thing on thereGod is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

I would imagine any bread would be fine - it'll be interesting to hear what it tastes like with sourdough bread !
So, Sian, shall we say Monday pasta funghi, Tuesday panzanella ? (That's two frugal nights in a row for me, but that does mean that I get to keep the weekends free in order to give our entertainment budget a battering). I guess that Thursday is a good one for the shepherdess pie for me, if you manage to get the ingredients and can join in with it, Arty (and any other takers).
Anyone who can't do the same dishes on the same nights, but still fancies doing some testing, just do what you fancy and when you fancy, and then post about it, it will still be valuable0 -
Hi all! I previously lurked and occasionally contributed to the very first thread, but life got on top of me and I stopped checking the threads. However I'm now less busy and I'd love to help out testing the meals and stuff here again. I'm vegetarian and I'd be happy to have all the meals. I will check the thread properly in a bit as I'm on my phone now and it's not the best for typing on! Just checked the site too and it looks fabReal stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time0

Weezlie, I can't see the Butternut Squash Tart recipe anywhere on site ? Am I going blind ?
As a stop-gap, recipe here:
Butternut squash tart
500g butternut squash
50 ml veg oil
230g self raising flour
4 slices home made white bread, crumbed
150g sugar
2 heaped teaspoons garam masala
Method Cook the squash in a pan with water, garam masala and 130g sugar, (cover with a lid so any bits poking above get steamed.
Remove lid when it’s all mulched together. Keep adding water/reducing until you have a thickish wallpaper paste consistency.
Crumble in the breadcrumbs, don’t add all of it if it’s getting too stiff: the consistency of a buttery mashed swede would be about right here.
Squidge the flour, cereal, 30g sugar, oil and approx 4 tbspns water until you have a soft stretchy dough. Press this out into the base and sides of an 8 inch pie dish or flan case.
Bake at gas mark 5 for approximately 5-8 mins until just beginning to brown, then remove, fill with the squash mixture and bake for a further 10 mins until edges of pastry are dark golden. Makes 8 portions so be very disciplined and freeze half for next time!0 -
