    OFF TOPIC

If any of you fellow Dr Who fans live anywhere near Lancaster, Judges Lodges museum have a Dr Who exhibition within there toy museum at the moment. Made a flying visit the other day, when we visited 3 museums in 2 hours.

Hi sorry not been posting much but RL is getting in the way but i have kept up with the reading so its not like reading war and peace.
Can anyone help with some ideas with what to do with gooseberries. I have never cooked with them before. I have about 2lb of green and red ones so anyb ideas gratefully received. Also have beetroot so again ideas please. Not pickled as ex and i not fans.
TIA and hope to post more over the next few days xx

I made my first gooseberry jam recently.. using THIS recipe :D

Oh, actually... I am sure I took a picture of it ... I will see if I can link it on here :D

Edit PIC 1 PIC2 ... somehow, it wont let me post pics direct ??
Anyway, I hope these can be seen. The gooseberries were green, and I kept cooking until they turned the colour they are in the jam :D
This was a little left over, that seemed a waste to put in a jar ;)

I also recently baked beetroot... like potato wedges.
    They were very tasty :D

    On to the plan...
Unfortunatly work has been in the way of me making anything else.. although, I did have bean curry for dinner this evening. And I think I will be having risi e bisi tomorrow ... both from the freezer ;)
I hope to try the nut roast on Wednesday..... truth be known, I am itching to try it :p but if not, it may be next week before I get round to it.

    Morning All!!!!!!!

I am up early and already have a chicken on to poach, how very domesticated of me!!

Last night was Calzone night, as Mr arty wanted to make some filled rolls we decided to follow the batch cooking methods and made his rolls and calzone at the same time whilst freezing the left over dough for Tuesday when I am making pizzas for some friends.

In the planning stage this seemed like a brilliant plan but in reality I found it quite stressful!!

We followed the plan to the T apart from the marmite as I didnt have any in, so made the dough and left to proveDSC00056.jpg, there was quite a lot of it and mr arty was worried it wouldn't rise very well. We had a heated discussion about when the dough needed to be seperated and as our interpretation of the recipe were different and so ended up seperating into batches before the proving. DSC00060.jpg

The dough proved after the recommended 45minutes, and I made the tomotoey sauce whilst Mr arty made the bechamel sauce. We did have some problems as the recipe ingredients are further up the page and although we had got them all out in preparationDSC00061.jpg , the method just states general terms such as 'add seasonings' which meant with our floury hands we were scrolling up and down the laptop page to see the exact ingredients for each sauce.

    However both sauces worked well:

    white sauce DSC00074.jpg

    tomatoey sauce DSC00076.jpg

So we placed the sauce on the calzone as weezl stated DSC00066.jpgand put it in the oven.

Whilst I did this, mr arty filled his rolls DSC00071.jpg ready for his working week.

We then ate the calzone DSC00077.jpg

by this time we were starving, however it was yummy, filled us up and the white sauce works really well!!!!!!

Sorry piccies are so big im trying to make them smallerxxx

Arty, that's utterly smashing !!! Loving the lateral thinking and using the batch method to do what works for you - the fishing Kitty would be proud of you both :D

Loving the pics too - although why can you post pics while me and Potty can't ? No fair....

Potty, do you get an error message when you try, something along the lines of this function can't be found on this server ? That's what I've been getting last couple of days.

Nut roast tonight, and I'm hoping to do the ginger loaf batch (gotta do something pronto cos am out of bread). Been feeling unwell on and off last couple of weeks though so dunno if I'll have the energy to do so :(

Yep - when I click on that, I get the "404 Not Found" error mesage - The requested URL/clientscript/ieprompt.php was not found on this server. That's been the case last couple of days, worked fine before. And it can't be an MSE wide thing cos you and RT are working ok :)

I can't be ersed with it at the mo, but if it's still playing up over the next day or two, I'll post in the site feedback for advice....

have just caught up with the thread as RL has kept me away from all my online friends

I sanded and repolished the village hall floor last wed and thurs. My goodness, can one body ache any more than I did over those 2 very long days, I could barely move! DP came up and helped, he did the edges and put on 1 of the 2 coats of polish while I did the easy bit of pouring it on just before he spread it. Completely forgot about the skype meet, was prone and snoring on the sofa. Hope you had a good discussion and have a direction. Will try and catch up with skype later, must bake some bread now

DP and I went out for lunch yesterday as it was 33 years ago that we first met. I had scallops and 3 types of ice cream, he had a meat platter and rhubarb and apple crumble it was all very delicious and cooked on the premises. For anyone near enough it was The Gun at Gun Hill. Great buzzy, busy pub with wonderful food and done up with F&B paints and old furniture and bits.

What else have I been doing, erm, oh yes, had the deadline for the hall because the local Horticultural Society were having their annual show. The president is moving, and no-one else wants to take on the work of organising it, so it was rather bitter sweet this time, as probably the last one.

Had lunch with my daughter at Bexhill, and her daughter, who is 13 going on 20. DGD is as tall as her mum (6ft'ish) has all her curves, and moves and speaks like someone much older. DD is getting quite stressed about keeping her safe until she is old enough to deal with it all. DGD is just beg to get interested in boys, and to cap it all, her little gang is 3 other girls, and they are all 15. I am trying to pass on stuff I've learnt over the years, and both DD and DGD are pretty sensible, but both DD and me are both pretty much holding our breath at the moment

Thinned out my apples again and had lots more tiny fruit to use. So made a double batch of apple curd, and also added 600g of balckberries that were still in the freezer from last year. Sieved out the toe nails and blackberry pips. Absolutely delish. Unripe apples make a wonderfully sharp, flavourful curd. Lovely with yogort and on toast.

Tried Allegras way with runners, really good. The beans stay crunchy for ages in the simmering mix, even tho they go that sort of overcooked green colour. Haven't tried freezing them yet, but have a large bowl of beans again to use up before they dry out, so will make some more and freeze that. Assuming I can make room of course!

The record of produce from the garden so far has now topped £200, with still lots more to come
