Hi
Just received 2 items in the post this morning after winning ebay auctions. Both items are fine but the postage costs are nowhere near what was quoted.
I know I made the choice to bid knowing what these costs were, but i seriously believed that they were realistic.
But for items in question one charged £4.75 , but it cost £1.77 (second class postage I think).
Item 2 charged £4.00, but cost £1.70 (first class).
I would happily take a mark up on postage to say an extra £1.50 to cover materials, travel etc. but these prices seem over the top.
Am I being mean leaving feedback as positive, but with a comment about high postal costs ?
Also am I being petty for even thinking about reporting them for excessive charges ?
Must just be that way out today as I feel the need to be mean.
Thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

You agreed to pay the total (auction price + postage) so anything other than positive would be out of order. Chances are the seller had the extra money on postage for a reason to keep the buy it now price down, I do this myself.
The postage is over the top but thats ebay for you and the climate we are in.0 -
I suppose it depends if you think paid a good price overall for the items, I've paid £5 postage on a 99p item, even though I knew it would cost far less than that to send, but £6ish was still the going rate for it so I didn't really see it as a problem, it's unethical but so many sellers do it nowadays to avoid eBay fees.0

Personally I think where post and packing is clearly shown in the listing but the buyer refers to it as a problem in feedback, I assume the buyer is trouble. The way I look at it is if a buyer does not read someone else's auction, might they not misread mine and question something I have said clearly?
The only way to stop sellers loading their p and p excessively is to stop bidding on their items.

Why don't you email them and express your concern. I have only had the occassion to do this once and I did get a refund.
You can but try.0 -
the problem is, how you define what is reasonable and what isn't?
If the seller gets paid £12 a hour at work, then he could claim it took him half an hour to list, wrap and post the item, worth £6 in labour costs. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
I dont really buy the whole paying for their time thing, it's not a job, they chose to list it of their own free will, i'd never turn round and tell someone "postage is 4 quid over the odds.....because your paying for my precious time!!"
Is annoying when people overcharge for postage, some of the time it's probably innocent and they dont realise what it really costs, but some people just take the !!!!!!, ie charge you for first class, then send it second class etc charge you 3 quid for things that cost 65p and so on.
At the end of the day, probably not worth complaining about, you agreed to pay the amount and were obviously happy about it at the time.0 -
I don't leave bad feedback for overcharging on P&P as I know what I am paying when I bid. I paid £4 for something posting to me that only cost him 37p!!! I did win the item for 99p though so it was cheaper than any other listing even with the high p&p.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

All very reasonable comments.
I did state that I had obviously accepted the t & c's of the sale by bidding and winning. Just was wondering what others thought.
I personally as a seller could not do this, but I am too soft (I hate leaving negative feedback and very seldomly do).
After having read Soo's comments, I am glad that I asked the question as I would not wish to be labelled as trouble !
As I said in my original comment I must just be out of sorts today, as probably on other days I wouldn't have thought twice about it.
Still very interesting to hear people'w views.

All I care about is the total delivered price to me. If the seller loads the postage, I will "unload" the item price accordingly.0

I reported someone once for high postage, and all I was told by ebay was basically they could charge what they like, and not to bid if unhappy!!!
nothing about what happens AFTER!
I would message them, and say you are unhappy. have theu left you feedback yet?
I once had this, and I got £1.50 back from the seller0
