Feedback - would this be unfair ?

  • All I care about is the total delivered price to me. If the seller loads the postage, I will "unload" the item price accordingly.

Absolutely. Total price is all that matters.

When I'm selling, I try to be fair with postage, but I still want a bit extra to cover some of the eBay and PayPal [STRIKE]theft[/STRIKE] fees.

I sold a phone recently. Guessed the postage at £6.00 for first class recorded. Overestimated it a bit, so sent it Special Delivery at no extra cost to the buyer. Only fair, I thought, but wouldn't have expected any complaints if I'd sent it recorded.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I have just sold an item to an overseas bidder. He asked two questions about the condition of the item, but not the postage. When the auction finished I was filling in the invoice and had a thought (for once). I could fill in the postage as £100 and that would be fine, he'd have to pay it, as those are the rules - he didn't ask for postage, so more fool him.

Guess what? I'm not a thief.

  • i think that if the postage costs and shipping method was stated in the auction, then you shouldn't leave them a neg.

I hate when sellers, dont send by the method they list. ie in auction it stated 1st class recorded, and guess what it got lost and seller sent it normal post. never heard anything else from the seller, and managed to get my refund through Paypal.

The answer why postage costs are high is simply because sellers can recoup some of there fees through the postage costs and nobody will really question it.
  • You had all the information you needed. You knew what you were going to pay and agreed to that price. The fact that the shipping turned out to be lower does not matter. Leave positive feedback if you are happy with what you received. Ignore actual postage, it does not matter as you knew what postage you agreed to.

I dont really buy the whole paying for their time thing, it's not a job, they chose to list it of their own free will, i'd never turn round and tell someone "postage is 4 quid over the odds.....because your paying for my precious time!!"

Actually, for a lot of people it is, and they may well use this method to justify their costs. (not me, I rarely sell stuff on ebay - too much hassle)
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

As long as they sent the item by the method charged for, e.g. if you paid for recorded delivery, and they sent it recorded, rather than 2nd class standard etc... then just leave them a positive.

As pointed out, if this person was a business seller, rather than a private one, then you dont know what their associated costs are with the sale - do they have to pay someone to do the packing, how much does the packing material cost etc..

Plus, you knew the total price when you bought, and were obviously happy paying that, so complaining now seems a bit petty
