I've put washing away, given the boys theirs, but Nathan is again refusing to do anything, threatened him with phoning his father and he said go on then and gave me his phone!!! Any ideas? cause i'm banging my head against a brick wall here

I second what Sammy said, when they ask you to do something pretend you've not heard them.

Is it me or are teenagers getting more brazen?

lmc, if i had spoken to my mum or dad the way Nathan just spoke to me i would have had a hiding for it... I still don't speak to my mum like it now and i'm 38!!!

I was trying to get him to do stuff and he was singing on top of his voice and ignoring me

OMG!! he just came down i asked him if he has picked everything up off the floor and he put his hand up to me!!!!

  • Sammy-emailed you back hun.

    Claire-time for more drastic measures.
    1. Call his father. Never make a threat you are not prepared to follow through with.
    2. stop him going to Young Carer if he isnt fullfilling his end of the bargain. End of. Give him a choice-he is a young adult and they need to start making their own choices so say 'you can either pick up your stuff now and then go out OR go out now and be back at 'X' time and do it then' kind of thing. He needs to be allowed to be responsible instead of being 'told'.
    3. if he still ignores you, explain (even in text/letter/email etc) the consequences of his actions in order. For example

if he does not do as he is asked by a certain time he will lose his mobile/DS/Wii
if he contines to not do as requested, continue to take priviledges away.

    Most importantly-
PRAISE the good! Too often I find as parents we are keen to forget that children need to know they are doing well.

I hope I am not out of line but this is the way I tend to deal with my children...

I'm pleased to report that , while the day hasn't got better, neither has it got worse.
