If this is the case then ignore the angle grinder bit, it would be illegal in this case.

  • thanks peter - I couldn't take an angle grinder to the clamp anyway - I wouldn't a)know how to use one and b)can't afford to even hire one!

Unfortunately, it looks like DVLA work in partnership with clamping companies:

They have clamped it while acting for the DVLA ?

If this is a council car park and they clamp as part of enforcing the Order for the car park, or even if they issue a PCN for no tax as part of enforcing the Order for the car park then their action is ultra vires.

I was of the mind that NCP does the DVLA clamping not NSL. I will have to research that as I could be mistaken in my recollection.
  • if I could get my blinking scanner to work, I'd scan this wet, soggy piece of paper which was shoved under my wiper! Disgusting!

On the plus side, I've managed to borrow enough for the release fee of £100 and I have £85 in my account if I empty them both!
  • it was a railway station car park, run by NCP. NCP Services Limited did the clamping on behalf of the DVLA.

March 2009 - NSL Services Group - the new name for NCP services

I think you'll find they split and NCP still exist as a separate entity.:rotfl:

Angle grind it off I would and say you couldnt afford it.

I haven't heard of anyone done for criminal damage.

The scotts out lawed clamping!!!! Don't know why we don't

Is it one u can let the tyre down and drive off? When I worked in the motor trade a hire car got clamped outside my work because the hirer just left it there when the collected their car. So we thought it unfair.

I have done that before but most use a triangular piece of metal with a chain now.
