URGENT!!!! I've been clamped!

Hi all, I'm a regular poster on the DFW board but didn't want to feel ashamed that I've been clamped for non payment of my car tax!
So coming in under an alias!
I bought my car 2 months ago, the disk having already 1 month left to run. MOT was about to expire and of the 3, MOT and insurance was the more important things to pay. I had the car MOT'd on Saturday, insurance paid up to the end of the year, car tax next on my list of things to do... but stupidly have driven it to the car park where I get the train to work.
So I park today at an NCP car park, pay my parking fee, hop on the train and totally forget about the car... until I get back to the station tonight and find my car clamped by NCP Services Limited.
I do not have the £260 release fee to release it!
Can anyone help please? It's the beginning of the month and I only get paid on Friday so I need help with this ASAP. The taxi driver I spoke to on my way home this evening doesn't think this is legal as it is not the DVLA or the police who clamped it!

Got to agree with the taxi driver but it'll be a mess trying to get a CC judgement against them. Unless you know someone who can angle grind the clamp I can't think how you'll get out of this one without paying first. I hope other posters will be able to help more.
Good Luck.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Thanks peter! So frustrating!0

Well don't leave the car - if it gets towed - you'll be charged even more money. Get inside the car - no one can tow it if you're in it.
Short of getting the clamp off yourself (which you can then be charged for), not sure what your options are?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Well I'm not at work tomorrow, I was supposed to go to the dentist - will have to cancel that - I will sit in the car!0

Have you got your tax now?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I can't pay for the tax as well as the release fee.... The tax is £85 and the release fee is £100 with tax (£260 without tax!)
The won't release my car anyway until wednesday and by then it would have been towed according to the unhelpful lady on the phone!0 -
Was the tax due yesterday? You could get the tax disc sorted as if you did it today, by phone/internet perhaps? NCP have nothing to do with car tax but they'll say parked in contravention of something or other.
eta: i didn't help much sorry...:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

However, I can get the tax disc in the morning, pay the £100 release fee and still be able to eat the rest of the week by doing it oldstyle moneysaving! Just....0

Having had a quick look around, it seems that NCP do act as agents for the DVLA. This could be the case in the OP's situation. OP, you'll need to scan the docs you have received so we can see them.
It may also be worth posting this on the parking forums at https://www.pepipoo.com for some more assistance.0 -
The tax ran out on the 30 June, hasn't been driven until today as I insured it when I first got it but the MOT was only done on Saturday - Took the car to the station today, with all my forms and stuff to do the tax disc at the post office during the day - got sidetracked and forgot all about it!0
