Free Network to Network Calls

Hi All

I'm just wondering if any networks do free network to same network calls. Quite simply I only phone my wife.

I've had the same phone for 5 years now with a simplicity O2 contract for the last 2 years and I'm quite keen on getting a new smartphone if possible.

Am I stuck with O2 and the same old phone?

Thanks in advance

If you ONLY phone one number, one of the cheapest ways of doing this will be something like giffgaff, which offers free same network calls (you just need to top up £10 every 90 days) or Three's PAYG offers something similar but you can do top ups of just £5 online - making the annual cost just £20 to make free calls to other Three mobiles if you don't call any other numbers (but you do also have £20 credit to use up elsewhere over the year).

It might be worth looking at these deals and then buying a smart phone upfront and putting a giffgaff/Three SIM inside - it all depends exactly which smart phone you're interested in. A PAYG Smartphone from three will probably be the cheapest - and if it is an expensive one that you can't afford to buy, it is worth comparing cheapest available credit options versus continuing your simplicity contract.

Littlewoods offer 156 week terms if cheaper credit isn't on offer to you, so Three's PAYG deal at 39p/week PAYG topup (£5 every 90 days) and then, for example, £2.51/week on 156 week terms for the Samsung Galaxy would come to £2.90 per week, or £12.57 per month. Is that cheaper that your current Simplicity deal? If you have cheaper credit available, it could be even (much) better.

I took out a contract with T_Mobile a while back with a T-Mobile Pulse, 100 minutes, 100 text, internet and a booster which you can get unlimited calls to the same network, all that for £7.50 a month. Not sure if the same deal is still around though.

You can get 5000 free minutes a month same network calls with Three on certain contracts and something similar with O2, only with them it's a bolt-on. If you can afford to pay up-front for the smartphone, however, I would suggest doing what Stuart_W has mentioned and go with GiffGaff.

There is a thread in the referrers board where if you get a sim from another user, you can get £5 credit.
