I must admit that I was tempted yesterday ( not good on day 1).
We went shopping yesterday after school . We passed lots of lovely restaurants . I wanted to go on and have a meal with some wine:o.

I understand exactly what you mean 40SM. I live near our local university and I hear deafening bells when I pass wine bars. Summer when they're outside and winter when all the lights are beckoning. I find it best to take a good hard look at the bar where local winos go day and night:rotfl:.

  • Hi all,

AF here tonight so 3 for me please Shaggy.

Great news on your interview Marru well done :T

Also well done Jo I'm glad you have found someone you can confide in.

All the best to the 100 day challengers. I've been thinking about it over the last couple of days and feel very attracted to the idea in some ways but in others I feel I can't commit to that yet.

    Good luck all.

Well I have been on what can only be described as a bender over the last few days.

I have now run out of vodka, and i am so skint I don't want to risk jusing my debit card at the shop.

    So folks

Any room on that wagon??????? Cos I am climbing back on.....

Here SSG, take my hand and pull yourself up here with the rest of us, plenty of room and a shoulder or two to cry on. Vodka is the devils own drink, really tart as you mean to go on.

Jo, I'm really pleased that your colleague is being so open and supportive - I hope tonight has gone well for you.

Here I'm in for another AF day so that's 2 so far. Just having a cup of tea right now before bed.
Now that it's a few days without booze I do think I'm deflating a bit - less puffy and bloated round the middle (or maybe that's wishful thinking!).

    See you tomorrow

Thinking you don't want to drink again is fairly easy but of course as we know DOING it is quite another matter!

I feel the two are connected :D
  • One of the sickest things about alcoholism is that it regularly runs in families. My folks are not alcoholics, but most of my alcoholic friends have at least one parent who is an alcoholic.
And while they swore they would not turn out like their alcoholic parent, they did exactly that. At least they are now in recovery, and trying not to repeat the behaviours and save their children from the actions of their alcoholism.

My children saw me drunk (they used to try and wake me up in the morning) but both were under 4 at the time so I hope they will never have memories of me drinking.
I owe it to myself not to drink today. If my children benefit, then great, but I can only stay sober for me.

My drinking has negatively affected my life and that of my children. I do what I can to make it stop for today.
Many active alcoholics put their relationship with alcohol before their own family. I didn't think I did, but when sober I could see that my relationship with alcohol came before everything. This is a most selfish disease. It brings others down too.

Graeme, I hope you didn't think I was sort of having a pop at you and insinuating what you'd done to your children - I don't think you did, but just in case, I wasn't.
I was replying about your point of other people thinking you were fun when drinking and you saying about your wife, children.........

Your posts are always spot on to me, they make such sense.

I am 99% teetotal (never really have drank) but through my experiences am able to understand the illness somewhat.

  • One more AFD for me please Shaggy! :j

Posting at this silly hour is starting to become a routine, LOL! :D

I've just scoffed some Ryvita with ham and beetroot, YUMMY! I get home from work absolutely ravenous, but I am trying not to stuff my face full of naughty food just before I go to bed.

*unwinds*...........I have 3 evenings off now. How wonderful and lovely :):):):)

I am still wondering how to occupy myself on Sunday evening to avoid/beat the cravings. Unfortunately, I can already feel some thoughts starting about drinking on Sunday evening. Not good, need to nip them in the bud, but don't know how.

I won't be posting until Sunday evening now, so have a great weekend everyone and best of luck to those wanting and trying to stay AF.

    Hugs and love,
    Caz
