received a letter from the council threatening to evict me as I wasn't in when they knocked for the 2nd time to do a gas safety check yesterday (BECAUSE I WAS AT WORK!!!!), so I rang and told them their life story (their error, not mine
)
When I was on holiday a letter had come telling me that they were coming within the next couple of days to carry out a gas safety check. I obviously wasn't in. A few days later the man turned up, I'm still on holiday, so he shoved a letter through the door, quite a threatening letter telling me this was the 2nd reminder (of which I hadn't seen either yet).
I tried to ring to get an appointment last Tuesday morning first thing, she said that her system was down and would ring me back to fix a time. I didn't receive a call and then the following day had a 3rd letter telling me they were going to begin the steps of getting me evicted because the gas has to be checked by law. This I do know, this happens annually, they have been here for the last 18 years, every year. Why oh why do they think as we are council tenants we are sat at home on our ar5es watching Jeremy Kyle just waiting for them to knock on the door? Why do they only give you a couple of days notice of when they're coming?
So, still waiting for a phone call from the council re booking an appt since Tuesday, I have complained to my housing officer about what's happened so far and then today.......
Just now a very loud bang on the door, looked out for postie van or suchlike, nothing (can't see my front door from the window), through the glass I could see it was a big bloke. Again, another loud bang on the glass. I'm thinking it must be a baliff from a forgotten old debt :eek:
He finally went back to his car, looking up at the house every couple of steps. No uniform, just an ID badge round his neck but couldn't see it. Went to his car which was a very nice Jag, sat in the passenger seat and started writing. Five minutes later posted a note through the door. I waited for him to go before I got the note.
It read....
***** called Saturday 4/9/10 at 11.10am to carry out gas service. No answer. Please phone *********** to re-appoint. I drove 70 miles today to keep this appointment. Please ensure future appointments are kept if not contact us to cancel - Thanks *********
ARE THEY HAVING A LAUGH????
I never made a bluddy appointment, I wanted a Saturday appt so that I didn't have to take time off work and all they needed to do was ring me either on Tues, Wed, thurs or Fri or indeed even this morning and let me know and I would've gladly let him in!! Their systems were down so she couldn't access the diary.
He was driving a top of the range Jag, looked more like a casual business man, didn't turn up at the door with the tell-tale toolbox and didn't have any company calling cards with him, he wrote it on the back of a scrap piece of paper.
Unbelievable.....
ETA: 70 miles......that's like 3/4 of my holiday destination away :eek: f.uckin ridiculous....excuse my fronch
EETA: Oh and another thing, after knocking twice and posting the note he stood by his car and took his phone out and made a call. My landline rung, it wasn't enough that there was no answer to 2 knocks but he rung me as well, prob to catch me out, I didn't answer itDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
