I was only talking about this subject a few days ago with my DIL. We are planning on going to be measured properly.

As a rule it tends to be that if you are a size 8 you will have a 28 back size, 10=30, 12=32, 14-34, 16=36, 18=38, 20=40, etc.... I have had many a lady come to see me thinking they are a 40-42 and they have been 4-6 inches out. If you are a size 16-18 then you are probably a 36-38 bust size. There are exceptions to this but from experience I can pretty much apply this rule to each of my customers.

Doesn't apply to me, or my mum ... or my best friend I'm afraid! :o

I obviously need to rephrase - what I meant was waist size usually reflects band size (not bottom size as some people wear a 14 bottom but will have a size 10 waist), it is a good guide for most people to know whether they are in the right band size.

You lot are obviously my exceptions. Or maybe you are not. You all want to some round for a cup of tea sometime? :D;)

I can't recommend Bravissimo highly enough. The fitters keep bringing bras until I have a selection that I'm comfortable with and never rush me. I also like the fact that it's free and there's no obligation or pressure to buy. They made my life a lot easier.

Blue_monkey - I've been really enjoying your posts. OH finds it very amusing that I, like you, walk around town spotting women wearing the wrong size bra and itching to tell them that it doesn't have to be that way.

I was in a D cup by 13 and bra shopping was a distressing experince every time. Finally mum took me to a little boutique (out of sheer desperation!) and the lady there taught me how to fit myself. You cannot believe how wondrful it was to not have older women making comments on my boobs!!!

I had abreast reduction at 21,by which time I was a 32G, and am now a 32B (A in sports bras). I still fit myself and 9 times out of 10 can tell just looking at a bra if it will be okay or not. I'd certainly never get measured in M&S again!

    What a fantastic thread!

I too am wearing the wrong size bra and have been since I had my DD 3 years ago :o I am just too ashamed to get fitted properly as I am a "large" lady and the thought of showing somone my enormous frame scares the hell out of me, it makes me feel embarassed just thinking about it. I would also be worried that they didn't have anything in my size, would just be mortified (I don't live in a city so not much choice).

Like somone else said I have a drawerful of bras that don't fit of all different shapes and sizes. The problem too is that I have lost nearly 4 stone and it seems to come off my boobs first, but I have put some weight on during my hols and I can feel/see already that some of the bras that I was wearing don't fit again.

Blue Monkey if it is ok just you just reiterate what measurements you would need and I will pm you on Monday (have a fab birthday).

    Thanks for this thread!

i am loving this thread !!!

I wear a 36B , i usally buy my bras from La senza... i am in the small size... my back measures around 35 in and i am a size 10 or 12 depending....
Even the 36b is a bit big on me, but i can not wear 34 cos because of my back... measuring online says i should be a 38A-B.. i bought a 38A in MAtalan 1 month ago and although it fits my back, my boobs are too small for it.

Another questions is.. should i sleep with a bra on ? if you help with a size that i should try, where do i buy them from ? any stores online that you can recomend?
