Do you REALLY know your bra size?

Does anyone know why I have an overhang of flesh under my arms over the top of my bras? I don't thik that my bras are too tight as bigger sizes ride up my back.
Is it just that I have fat armpits?:(0 -
blueMonkey, I'm a 38" ribcage. I was wearing a 40DD prior to surgery, but the surgeon had me strapped into a 38B/C bra and ordered me to wear it for at least 3/4 weeks (using a horrid surgical bra whilst the proper one is being laundered). This is not as weird as it sounds as he did a breast reduction at the same time as the lumpectomy.
I bought a sports bra 38C to wear also, at the nurses suggestion. It seems OK for the time being but I need to get myself properly fitted with an underwired bra after chemo/radio therapy. I'm nowhere near a bravissimo and our local M&s is really carp for selection. Lots of internet suppliers don't do returns either, so it's all a bit of a gamble.0 -

I'm a member of an am dram group and went to a production meeting on Friday, I spent the evening sitting opposite a lovely young lady (a mum of a young baby) and a 'bonnie lass' and resisting the urge to mention 'bravissimo'!!!
We had a first rehearsal today and again I had to resist the urge on a number of occassions - your little 'foible' is definately catching! lol
LOL, I told you. SOmeone else told me the same thing last week.... :rotfl: I am breeding who board of adies obsessed with other ladies boobs!!0 -

I am afraid so, sorry.
I have had this since I was a teenager and even as a skinny minnie I had it - nothing at all to do with size, it is just one of those things. It just means you cannot wear some kinds of tops really.
Even if you get a bigger band size you'll find that it is still there.
Nice to know there is someone else here in the fat armpit cub though, it's one of those things you can hide and not have to tell anyone else about though.0 -

Hi Beenie,
You cannot really tell with sports bras to be honest, as they are quite stretchy and compress. I would start with a 38D and see how the cup size is on it, the best style to stay with is not a plunge bra but look for a Balconette bra as they give good support.
If you click on my username and choose 'blue_monkeys homepage' you'll find that site that was mentioned a while back. I have loads of old style Gossard, Lepel, Panache and some others that I am getting rid of at the moment and they are £2.50-£5 (I reduced some more BTW!!). I also have some Berlei for £4 but I would get a 40C or D in those as they run small in the back. I also accept returns with unlimited free exchanges as ali-t will tell you.
Some styles even have matching matching briefs from £1.50 but they are end of range so cannot be ordered in if you are looking at the really cheap ones.
If you need anything else then please PM me, I do not mind helping. Good luck with your treatment, I hope that all goes well but if you need to offload then I am sure that there are lots of us here that have a good ear and some virtual hugs.0 -
I'd love to get measured for a bra, but I'm really self conscious about my top half- tops of my arms included (I always wear sleeves), I put on weight fairly quickly a couple of years ago & got stretch marks all over the tops of my arms & of course more on my boobs. I've lost a bit of weight since then but of course all that is still there. As a result I pretty much hate myself & like I said don't even have the confidence to wear a t shirt never mind stand in front of someone in a bra
Currently a size 18, wearing either a 38 or 40F bra. They're the best fit I've ever had but something's still not quite right. Can anyone convince me that it wouldn't be the end of the world to bare all? (I am plucking up the courage to wear a swimsuit but keeping my arms by my sides on the way to the pool I think I'd be ok haha)
Sorry for the long winded post essentially about my self loathing0 -

 I think we all find it difficult to varying degrees my lovely. You could do your measurements and PM them to the wonderful BM and she could tell you if you're on the right track? Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
For years I thought I was 34FF- I'm actually 30G. Was honestly surprised, would have thought I'd have been able to tell the difference!0

I've got fat armpits too, and I don't think there's much can be done to get rid of it, sorry. If it's any consolation even the skinniest of minnies can have it, it's a bit like weird-shaped knees or cellulite, you either have it or you don't!
One thing I can swear to is that if you dress to suit your shape, how you feel comfortable (I mean happy and confident, not big baggy pyjamas comfy!) and how you look best, play up your good features, then no one will even be looking at the bits you're not too keen on!0 -
I was looking for an Evans code and ended up on this thread, but it's pretty true!
Whenever I was measured by M&S I was told 38B/36C. But my bra just didn't feel that comfortable. On my sister's recommendation I went to House of Fraser Bluewater, and the lady who fitted me was really helpful. Her advice and information from what I can recall 3 months down the line, was along what BlueMonkey (sp?) said. I found out that I'm more a 34E!! It's a crazy difference, and I do try on every bra before I buy now as sizing between manufacturers does differ slightly (like clothes I think).
Definitely always worth getting a second opinion! No buying unnecessary toiletries/makeup in May: Unnecessary spend £17.60
