I've just e-mailed this to a friend and they suggested I should post it here. Doesn't ensure a NSD but it might be useful.
When you go to the dentist ask for a prescription for mouthwash. They normally prescribe two bottles. Weigh up the cost of the prescription and the shelf price and choose the lower. If of course you are very old and prescriptions are free, even better.
Oh - I will try that the next time - pitty that won't be until next February as I was just there yesterday !!!!!!!!!!!!!Sunnylooloo wrote: »*starts humming "seven little girls sitting in the back seat, kissin' & a-huggin' with Fred"*
I can't stop singing that now!!
Me too ..................... HELPHi everyone,
Just popping in to declare NSD No. 4 today. Sorry I haven't been around much lately - have been feeling a bit down so haven't been much company (virtually or in real life either - poor hubby)
Going to read through the posts I've missed now - the thread always cheers me up!

So are you going to join us Schiff; have we whetted your appetite enough to make our little gathering attractive
I suppose it depends what you are trying to achieve as to how you want to work your nsds. If you just hate shopping & want to do as little as possible then yes, you need to sort out a plan of the shops you have to visit or the best time to buy on line. If it's more towards the money saving aspect, there are so many folk on here who can offer suggestions to help you do that too. Why not stick around & see how we work...
Not sure. First off I'm a bloke. Are blokes allowed? I followed someone onto here actually. As for whetting my appetite, any gathering that could consist of countless beautiful girls is bound to be attractive, so yes. But won't you want to talk about things that I shouldn't listen to?
It's funny, at a social gathering, if I'm sick of listening to Man Utd talk, and join a group of women chatting at another table, they stop talking. No idea why. I hate Man Utd (more so being a Man City fan). Do you know how we refer to them - Manure. It gives a lot of satisfaction that!
I've learned in life that women seem to know more about anything than all blokes put together, so I'm not sure that I will have much to offer, as you may know it already, but I'm willing to have a go.
To introduce myself, I'm unbelievable handsome, exceptionally rich and a consummate liar. First offering:
The following are a waste of money:
Pasta sauces
Curry sauces
Spices bought in Tesco, Sainsbury's etc
Expensive cuts of meat, except for a treat.
This a good money-saving idea:
Find an ethnic grocer.
I buy all my Basmati rice (bought a 10-kilo bag last time as it was reduced) and all my spices at a Pakistani shop. They stock Tilda, but there is little difference between that and their own once it's cooked and dressed up (more about that later) and their own is cheaper.
The spices come in industrial quantities. Even a reasonably sized bag is big enough to share with friends and family. And these large packs contain about four times what is in a Schwartz jar and are half the price.
They will probably do something that goes under the rather plain name of 'Ground Mixed Spices' - it's all the hot, but not too hot, spices. Again big pack, small price. With that you can create an excellent curry taste for a few pence. More later.
The slow cooker is a wonderful invention. It's the route to inexpensive eating and not going out.
Chicken thighs not breast. I skin them and remove the fat, for health reasons, as I may want to live to 100, though I've not decided yet.
Cheap cuts of beef - brisket, chuck, braising. Once casseroled (recipe idea to come) as tender as fillet and tastier.
Lamb's not cheap but neck is more reasonable and again a superb taste when casseroled.
More later, if you want.0 -
Ooooops forgot what I came to do and that was to report NSD NUMBER 7 :j:j
We did go to the auction and did buy the chair (I am sitting on it now and it IS very comfy) but we have swopped it for the one I was using and will sell that one at the car boot, hopefully on Friday, so I am not counting the expense (OK ???). Also guy delivered my Betterw*re order, but I had put the £5.99 for that to one side ready for him calling so had that covered
Tomorrow? Thursday - no plans to go out - need to get some stuff sorted for car boot on Friday - so hoping for my 8th NSD :jMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Feeling a bittoday as was yet another spend day due to the fact that i had to get some nails to do the last bit of boxing in before the plasterer comes. Have to keep reminding myself that tomorrow was planned to be a spend day as i needed to get some groceries for when my dad comes up at the weekend, but i did that today, so really i haven't had an extra spend day, i've just moved it... doesn't help tho when i'm feeling that i'm going backwards instead of making progress
Right sorry for the rant, the good news is that the builder was amazing, finished the whole job in one day, charged me much less than i expected to pay & the new layout of the kitchen diner looks amazing :j
Everytime i feel so tired of DIY that i could cry i just have to look at it & i know that it will convince me that the finished job will be soooo worth it!! :T

:hello:
Hi all NSD'ers
Sorry I haven't been around but I would have been rubbish companyTrouble is feeling down has really taken the focus off of not spending and ruined all my organising. The early shifts weren't too bad as I could come home and 'duvet dive' but the lates have been horrid as the house still feels so empty and I have been trying to fill in time that I used to take Orphan out
I have been doing things like 'oh well get petrol today so I can get out of the house' and not planning stuff.
I need to be back in here and focussed so will make more effort
Was spendy today as got tobacco for month after taking all Orphan's crates, beds, collars, harnesses etc to Animals in Need, didn't dare go in.........would have wanted to bring all the dogs home. I have a few days off at the end of the month so might get up to Brum to see my mum which will be nice. I do so want another furry friend just not yet.
Sorry to hear about your mum in law Karen I hope things get better soon.
well done everyone so far, and the songs have really made me grin LfV, thank you :kisses3:
Will be back tomorrow, hopefully with an NSD
(((((((((hugs))))))))))) to all that need them xx
