Can I ask how much you paid for his booster Tamrin? Someone mentioned they paid about £50 or £60 for their dog's jab the other day and I thought "What??" - we have 3 dogs (bet you did not guess that did you?) but we pay £25 for a booster and health check, so wondered what others pay

Hmm 3 Dogs not only can you be my personal shopper you can also take all my furry monsters to the vets for me!

I am sure my Dog's is due soon and I am sure it is a lot more that £25.

There's 11 days left in August and I have to find another 5 NSD's in that, gah I feel totally demoralised with it if the truth be told. I just worked out my SOA from my spending diary and there were a few skeletons lurking in that I would rather not have had to face!

Spoon please can I change the rules? Up till now I had counted not spending ANYTHING because I thought if I let DD's and debt repayments be included I'd just sneak things onto DD (I am a world champion at avoidance) I probably would too. It's clear to me I haven't got the will to get another 5 NSD's into this month on those rules. If I relax my rules so debt repayments and DD's don't count, then backdate that to 1st Aug so I can count any days they'd apply to is it cheating? Can I give myself special dispensation to just get through August?

August is a tough month for people who live in rural areas surrounded by holiday resorts, where there was once free parking to be found on the street you are now lucky to get into even the extortionate carparks and everywhere you drive takes hours/days longer than it should so no popping home for an early lunch if you're feeling peckish cos the jams are prohibative... Anyway I expect that's a rubbish excuse...

I'm struggling, do people think I can be allowed to change my rules for August or is it cheating? You can be honest. I will listen.

    Hey Hannah_10,

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a tough month. Know that it will and can only get better. :)

Kids will be back at school, holiday makers will have returned to whence they have come and you will be back on track. :T

I wanted to give a bit of a boost in return for the boost you first gave me when I started.

    I haven't forgotten about my SOA. :o

My vets showed me how to do this myself - I paid (can't remember how much, but wasn't excessive) for the clip they did as the 'lesson', and then I bought my own clippers.

Saves a fortune in the long run (think the clippers cost just over one bill from the vet, so in profit by the time I'd done the second), but definitely only something to try yourself if you're confident enough not to cut too high (and that your animal isn't likely to wriggle too much)

I mainly needed this for the Yorkie (every couple of months, as she was getting too old to walk outside for long enough to wear them down), and I used to have to muzzle her (had to do this at the vets as well, so not just me she didn't like doing them) and then have DS hold her tight while I did some of them - certainly couln't have done it all single-handed. The Dalmatian doesn't need doing anywhere near as often (possibly once every 12-18 months unless he splits one in the meantime, which has happenend), but he'll just sit and let me get on with it :)

We used to take our old dog to the vets to get her toenails clipped - they always made her bleed.

With the little un - she is always on the run and are back garden is paved so her's are never too long..... Although the vet's nurse wants to teach us something else to do to her (bit yucky to say on here) but I am still up for paying £7.95 and taking her down to the vets to get it done!!

jinty - seems that although we live at opposite ends of the island nearly (can't say country as you're in Scotland and I'm in England lol!) we still seem to suffer huge vet bills. I'm in Berskhire though so not surprising.

CW18 - I think our nail trim at the vet is between £10 - £15, can't quite remember. I've only ever had the late Big G's done there and after that I just did them myself - he was the most compliant cat ever, didn't like it being done but would sit next to me tucked under my arm while I did it - never once tried to bite or scratch me while I did it. Skippy on the other hand...well I'd end up in A&E, so as she's young and active I let nature manage her claws (plenty of scratching fences, trees...oh and our sofa on occasion grrr!)

Hannah - I don't count DD either. I only count card/cash payments only, I try to make transactions to pay off my cc on the same day as a spendy day but as it counts as a 'bill' I don't count it as an actual spend. Don't be too hard on yourself, the idea of this challenge is to 'challenge' and motivate us, just do your best x

as you local council changed the rules about parking for August I think you can change your rules for August too!

I don't count my DD as spend days as I have various ones coming out on different days...

Come on you can do this!!! you WILL make your target!

Hannah. you seem to be looking at this with a half empty glass rather than a half full one. How about you keep your 'rules' as they are this month and put in down to experience? You'll have a better idea of what to do for your target in September then. As BigMumma would agree, we never fail on this challenge.

It took me three months before I was brave enough to include every single payment when counting my NSDs...........and that was because I wanted to, not because I felt obliged to.

At the end of the day you have to sit down and work out what you intend to achieve by doing this challenge and set your rules accordingly. The first month I found it helpful to see what exactly I spent my money on. The second I cut out those unnecessary trips to the corner shop. The third month I planned my spends around my DDs and groceries. The fourth month Arrggghh! I included all my spends, however they were made.

I spend less on tat and have more money left at the end of the month to put away for my holiday next year.

Remember, any days you do not spend is something to feel good about, don't feel bad about spending but understand what it is you have actually spent on.

    Hope it helps........

I'm with you with the parking. Don't tend to go into Yarmouth very much this time of year. Luckily we can park outside the town and walk in (about 10 mins) to town centre but some people aren't able to walk that far.

ETA: Good to see you've posted your SOA. Some very useful comments have been put on your thread. I think the CD incident was a good learning curve. I hope you get things straightened out soon. You're doing really well and there will always be plenty of people around to give you that gentle kick up the arris or lift up when you're feeling down. Keep going, you'll get there.:kisses3:

Hi everyone, well NSD well and truly blown!
Just back from the vets, went there having paid my £60 for the cat's boosters the other day, happened to mention that he seemed to be eating a lot ( personally I think he's a bit greedy;)) .
Any hoo, before I knew it the vet decided he needed blood tests so that came to another £80:eek::eek::eek::eek: I'm a bit:mad: as I specifically budgeted for the boosters this month and that was £80 I could ill afford. I also got charged £8 for worming treatment.
Now I love my pets to bits and I would NEVER see them suffer but puss was not displaying anything untoward. He's always enjoyed his grub and he drinks a lot of awater too and has done since he was a kitten.
Now I'm worried sick waiting for the vet to phone me with the results.
Thanks to all those who posted re vets fees - what a variation throughout the country!
I appreciate your views and if anyone knows of cheaper worm/flea treatments for dogs and cats please let me know - I feel a little ripped off!:o
