Just to let all know that paul has just emailed me and informed me that at the bottom of the Q&A the last 4 items refer to what a tenant can do with his/her file, if you wish to view it and ask more questions please feel free.
How long will information stay on my file?

Six years from the date a tenancy began or six years from the original registration date whichever happened first.

I am a tenant, can I add a note to my reference?
Yes any tenant can add a notice of correction / add a note, simply write or telephone LRS. This option lets a tenant add a maximum 200-word message to their reference. You may want to do this if you think there's something misleading on your report. You should give a clear and accurate explanation of why you think it's misleading.
Possible reasons for a note could be:
You've recently married, separated or divorced and have changed your name.
You're behind on rent due to redundancy, unemployment or long-term illness.
Address your note to any potential landlords who might look at your report. Make sure your statement isn't defamatory (negatively affecting someone's good name or reputation), frivolous or scandalous, or unsuitable for publication.

What is contained in my Personal Information?
The Personal Information section of your LRS reference includes your name, date of birth, National Insurance and your current and previous addresses. We get this information from you, your landlords or other sources. As each source gives this information separately, there could be the odd variation in your name, address or date of birth.
Your personal information isn't used for referencing or absolutely no other purpose what so ever. Unfamiliar information could be a sign of fraud or identity theft.

Who can view my LRS information?
With your consent, only other landlords can request your information.
    Can I upload old tenants?
You can upload old tenants if you do not have these agreements in place as it is acceptable by the ICO data protection that your existing data can be used if:
The Processing is in accordance with the “Legitimate interests” condition.
The processing is necessary;- in relation to a contract which the individual has entered into; or because the individual has asked for something to be done so they can enter into a contract.
What are the Terms & Conditions of LRS membership?
Membership to LRS requires all landlords to:
Upload ALL tenants to their "LRS File"
Keep their "LRS File" up to date in order to receive FREE searches on the LRS database
Only submit truthful and accurate "Tenant Ratings"

LRS is in no way responsible for the information a landlord assigns to a tenant.
Any "Rent default" entered by a landlord must be able to be substantiated and have documentary support evidence.
Similarly "Property damage" must be independently assessed on a like for like basis, with an allowance for fair wear and tear. A landlord must be able to supply documentary support evidence.
Tenant references are supplied for information purposes only and are in no way the opinion of LRS.
It is the landlords decision whether to accept the reference or not.

Landlord reference relies on the honesty of landlords. Any landlord who breaches the system by offering a good reference when they are aware that a tenant is bad or dishonest, in order to get rid of a tenant, will immediately be removed as a member - without question or right to appeal.

Sorry am i missing something? Do the tenants FAQ's not contradict the landlords FAQ's?

And princessplaty I don’t think there is any way of saying this subtly but I will try if you are the subject of domestic violence and hiding you and your children for your safety and with the last occasion only 2 days ago, perhaps no picture let alone a provocative one of you posted on an open forum might “ not be a good idea” I would say that landlordreferencing is the least of your problems if thats what being low profile is.

Right first point, my avatar is NOT me.

Second of all my location is NOWHERE NEAR WHERE I LIVE.

Now thirdly would you care to actually bother answering my question?

""Do the tenants FAQ's not contradict the landlords FAQ's? "" - this part please ....
  • I just fail to see what is so wrong with being listed on a site for over 10,000 landlords to see that I am a good tenant?

Little Miss Aspie – you are clearly a bad tenant!!
I'm not a bad tenant, have never been a bad tenant and in two weeks time I won't be any sort of tenant. I don't want my personal information on some dodgy looking database for anyone to phone up about me.

Even if I'm not on it, how would I stop past letting agents from uploading me if they decide to join in future?

there's the rub..... if you ask your old lettting agents and landlords not to.. they may well not have heard of this site (it does not come up on google) and once they see it they will probably want to join.........

which is probably the last thing tenants on here want..........

    which part

Well, for a start, the one which tells Ts that their records will be kept for 6 years; versus the one which says Ls must upload ALL tenants. Existing tenants? All tenants ever since started letting out? All tenants over the last 6 years? But no obligation to prune after 6 years?

It's a poorly drafted piece of Q&A in my opinion.

Exactly , as I said before : "if you weren't on it before you certainly will be afterwards" The same is likely to apply to those who make a SAR

Talking of SAR's, it is normally the case that someone SAR's an organisation as they have a relationship with them, usually financial, but sometimes medical or whatever.

Doesn't quite seem right to me that I should have to SAR LRS (and pay £10) when I have no such relationship and indeed, cannot even become a member because I am not a landlord...
