  • Hi Guys!
First of all Happy 50th Spiggle!,
I had a spend of £2.20 of chip supper last night as i was so tired from the migraine i had the day before i just wanted to come home and sleep! and the previous day i spent £4.62 on treats as i was feeling sorry for myself - big block of dairy milk (untouched in the fridge) some t value scones, t value snowballs, t value caramel wafers (these are yum) and some creme fraiche. . .

I nipped to the parents to wish mum a happy birthday - dad gave me a carrier bag and said - go pick plums - they are falling of the heaving trees - so i have a HEEEOUGE bag of yellow plums - and i have been told to come back over the weekend to get more of the other 3 trees (i only looked at 2) and a mushroom box full of apples..... IDEAS PLEASE!! i am going to take todays haul into work tomorrow to share out in the hope that some of my collegues will bring there excesses in and i can fill my freezer with some thing ofther than plums and apples!

Have a good day tomorrow everyone!

Each day is a new beginning, look at what you have an be grateful for every tiny thing. You don't know when it may be taken away.
  • NSD today-only spent £24.07 so far this week which end on Sat(Sun=new week)
That included beer for dh so I've been very controlled! Feel good that half the week is through and I have 3/4 of my money left!
Determined to make August a cheepie!
Must do some cooking again tomorrow. I gave one of my butternut squash tarts to a family friend today when I went to give him a hand around the house-he thought it was very nice. Still have 2 in the freezer for us. May do spag bol for Friday tea-one pan veggy and one with beef.
May do some onion tarts also and freeze some Got to make some more apple curd as dd is eating it like there is no tomorrow and we have loads of apples!
My food processor seems to be running daily lately.
Noticed in Mr T recently how high their prices are lately. Co-op is now cheaper on a lot of things. When I went to Asda I thought how cheap they are-it will be worth the extra 4 miles for me!

I think I still have an online shop free code so I may use that soon-trouble is I could spend too much so I may not.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

OK, DH is plastered up and is being kept overnight in hosp but expects to be released tomorrow. He was in reasonable spirits, and hoped he would sleep but did say he'd take tomorrow off work. I will be heading for the bed myself shortly to catch up as I reckon it will not be an easy few nights ahead.

I got some fresh bread, sandwich meat and buns (a pack of fairy cakes, and 2 chocolate muffins) on my way home. DH will need things to make sambos easily tomorrow, and probably want some treats too. I know I certainly needed the chocolate!! But it means an extra €13 spend. Must add that on too....

Morning all, I hope everyone is well.

    Happy birthday Spiggle.

Winged one, sorry to hear about your OH, but glad he is sorted now.

My Tesco order arrived last night, £55.88, but we're now stocked up on various dried beans, as well as food for the next week. I also spent 59p on a packet of crisps, which I'm annoyed with myself about. Oh well, done is done.

    Off to update siggy.

I used plums and apples to make this Old Dowerhouse Chutney

I'm quite happy with it in place of Br@nston, though the kids aren't (so I still have a small jar of the bought one in the cupboard).

Have to admit it is very sweet, so I plan to try the next batch (a friend has said her plum and apple trees are looking well loaded again this year) with slightly less sugar.

happy birthday spiggle! Have a great day!

Well this month's budget has been shot down with more planned spends for today. Have very little left in the budget as we've gone through so much fresh food, buying medicine, eating frozen prepared food as i couldn't cook again, darn leg. It's unreal how much everything costs.

Were friends over for dinner tonight so planning on spinach and mascarpone cannelloni with salad. No idea what i'm doing with it. so just going to start looking at recipes using what i have in for the rest of the month.

Have a good day all x

    Spiggle!!!

    Happy birthday to you
    Squashed tomatoes and stew
Bread and butter in the gutter
    Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuu!!!!

Hope you're having a fab at fifty kind of day! :D

I only spent £1.50 yesterday and that was on choc. I may have to reassess my chocolate addiction, since i bet that contributes more than i would think to the bills. I guess i will see after looking at the receipts this month.

  • Hi all!

This grocery challenge is such a great idea! You truly don't realize how you spend per month or how to cut down until you start keeping track. But I think another crucial part to saving money on groceries is meal planning! I know I always try to plan my meals in advance but then I end up with something left over in the fridge (like spring onions!) that ends up going off and then you're wasting food and money! :(

But I've found this meal planning site resourcefulcook.com which is free and saves you money. The recipes are pretty tasty (so easy to cook and delicious too) and it saves you tons of money!! I was spending up to £30/week for myself (and making large amounts to have the next day as leftovers- boooring!) and now I spend at least half that! And there's never any leftover ingredients so you don't waste food either! It's brilliant!!

Good luck with the challenge! :)
