Had to come home from Work today, what should I say to my boss, one for the ladies.

Looks like the best solution is to say Gynae Problems - in the same way as you'd say back problems if it was your back.
Most bosses are happy with that and if they aren't offer to give them ALL the details ! (and watch them turn white, lol). Of course, you don't know the details until you've seen the consultant, so you're ok. Good Luck.0 -
I didn't have really heavy periods but my PMT affected my relationships, everywhere, not just work.
I ended up having the lot out and feel great. Shame I had to wait so many years.
I do understand about not wanting to tell a male boss tmi.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
I have ongoing gynae problems and to be honest with you, although I have no privacy of it whatsoever now, I do think its better things are out in the opn. My last manager was a man, and yes, he was obviously embarrassed, but it didnt stop me telling him. Why should I be ashamed of my uterus? I wouldnt be ashamed if I had a bad back
I refuse to keep quiet about it as our grandmothers had to do out of shame.
Hundreds upon hundreds of us have these problems and not enough is done to ensure that we are recognised.
Im classed as disabled under the DDA for this, and im glad that finally some authoreity somewhere reconises that life is a struggle at times for me. If you have an ongoing medical condition that has gone on for over a year, you will have extra rights under the DDA and they have to make reasonable adjustments for you, which can be working from home, flexi or whatever.
Dont suffer in silence sister!

x:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I had problems about 7 years ago, where I was bleeding for weeks on end (PCOS). My GP put me on the pill, but I reacted very badly to it, and couldn't leave the house for a week due to the flooding...
NHS direct suggested I might be having a miscarriage - but this definitely wasn't the case - I was single at the time. Anyway, my GP gave me a sicknote for that week - with the latin terms for heavy periods written on it. No one ever commented at work about it.
Incidentally I started acupuncture after that, and had some food allergy tests. I still don't eat yeast products, but it's a small price to pay.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
He will definitely be more embarresed than you so try to be calm and just tell it like it is if you can. I doubt very much he will want details on this one, but if he persists then say you'd prefer to write it down - Anyway your health is more important than your boses opinions. Hope it all gets sorted soon. Many of us have been there and sympathise with you all the way.0

if he's the boss then maybe he's had some sort of training in this kind of thing. I know that at my work the personnel ppl do back to work interviews. If I had the same problem as you and it was a man then i'd tell him it was women's problems and I had to visit the doctors about it. If he wants to know more then bring him a leaflet about periods.

hope you're feeling better hun

I think you're probably underestimating him. Most men of that age will have had at least one girlfriend, if not a wife, and should have some familiarity with women's bits. There's no point trying to make up something less embarrassing - just tell the truth, without going into detail.
As freebie_junkie's experience shows, this could be a sign of a bigger problem, so if he hasn't done so already, you should check with the GP that you're being tested for bleeding disorders. There are a lot of treatments for this problem, both surgical and non-surgical, and you definitely shouldn't put up with it, especially as it's clearly affecting your quality of life.
Best wishes and hope you get it sorted.0 -
Thanks for all your lovely posts. I'm having a full blood count done tomorrow, together with a Thyroid function test and a couple of others that I can't remember.
He's also doing blood pressure as it was high today (he was thinking about putting me on the pill as a temp measure) probably because I was so beside myself.
Anyway, had a long talk to DH tonight about how I feel that for several days a month I feel I let the whole family down (get migranes at various parts of my cycle) and he's been really reassuring but just worried about me.
Decided that I'll try to get back to work tomorrow, depending on how I am and will be vague but honest. If he wants more info he can ask!
Thanks all it really is good to know I'm not the only one.0 -
i had the same prob years ago, and i told my boss when the same thing happened to me, he ran a mile and didnt want to hear the details.
since then i have taken a supplement agnus castus, which has settled me down considerably in terms of the bleed and the pmsGive blood - its free0 -
I deal with the sickness reports at work, and I think you'll find that legally they aren't allowed to ask you about what is wrong with you. They can only ask for a doctors certificate after the self certification period (excuse the pun!) I'd just say, female problems, and I've been referred by my GP.0
