Had to come home from Work today, what should I say to my boss, one for the ladies.

I have really bad and heavy periods and today on reaching work, I was flooding (sorry if tmi) Things were so bad that I just went into my office, stood up (couldn't sit down) and cried. Rang a collegue to say I was going home and I left.
All staff looked at me as though I was mad as I left the office & I went to see my GP.
GP was lovely (had a cry there as well) and he is doing blood tests tomorrow and referral to a consultant.
My company do a back to work interview when you return from sickness leave so what do I say to my middle aged male boss (unmarried)
I've thought of just filling in a back to work form and posting it to him through internal post. Just saying Gynae problems.
I'm manager in my office so don't have a boss in situ so to speak and I just can't face a "chat" with him.
I know this might sound pathetic but today was just too much, I've suffered this for years but today has been the worst (20 pads since 8am this morning)
Sorry to have gone on a bit.

Not much I can say to help, but I have been through this, my GP tried lots of different things-some tablets to slow the bleeding, a mireena coil and finally a hysterectomy-there were lots of other options and we are talking about over at least 10 years..just try and look after yourself, is this a recent development..?Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks
Week 1-£52  Week 2-£75
Week 3-£60.66
Week 4-£29.98 Total=£217.58
w/c 18th Feb: £6.500 -
Is there a female member in your HR dept who could do the back to work with you or another female manager who can do it0

Oh, that's just terrible- I know what it's like to work with a bunch of men- you may find he's a lot more understanding than you'd expect- he has/had a mum after all, and may well have had sisters/sisters in law go through similar.
To save embarassment on both ends, I'd phone him rather than do face-to-face and explain what happened, and let him know although it's a long term problem you've never been off with it before and you went straight to your drs.
Explain how embarassed you feel and ask if he could let the interview go just this once- he may decide not to even mark it down as an absence.!
Hope you get sorted soon- and keep an eye on your iron levels too- green veg and steak for you,m'lady;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

You have a right to privacy in such circumstances. I would fill in the form, and say something along the lines of "On reaching work, I became unwell and had to leave immediately. I saw my GP that afternoon who has referred me for further tests to determine the reason, the results of which are still pending" If you've had to take time off for the same reason before, then I would add in as a second sentence "This is a recurring medical condition". If you have any comeback from your boss, I'm sure your GP will be happy to do a similar uninformative letter confirming that he saw you, and has referred you on, which will be sufficient to protect your legal position. Thanks all, I just can't help feeling pathetic. I'm normally quite strong in most situations but today has really got to me. I'll fill in the form as you suggest Nicki and see if he gets back to me.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who has these problems
Thanks for the PM poppy0 -
I would agree with Nicki's post but I think you would have to put something on the Gynea area down, its stops them asking anymore 'inquisitive' questions. I work in a company thats all male except me and as soon as I play 'that' card they all shut up and run!State in your letter/form you don't wish to discuss it further as tests and results are pending, its all unknown at present.Panda xx

Poor you!
I'm sure your boss will be more embarrassed than you; you probably just need to say, "women's problems, do you want the details?" and he'll be out of the door faster than jack rabbit. Writing a note or phoning him will probably be easier all around.
A colleague of mine had a member of staff with a similar problem. The staff member phoned me and asked me to tell her boss as she could face him. Unless you're planning a family anytime soon, get onto the injection! I used to get through a dozen super dooper tampons in a few hours and since I had the injection 2 and a half years ago I haven't had so much as a drop of a period! It also gets rid of the pains and mood swings etc!0

had the same problem for 20+ years. Now womb free!!!!
Take a deep breath and try to talk to your boss, he will either cough a lot and end the convo or will actually be sympathetic and getting time off to have tests etc will be a lot easier.
Remember you can't help this and they cannot give you a hard time.
Just to put your mind at rest and to let you know you are not alone. I went to work one day, flooded all over my seat on to the floor and obviously all through my clothes. My colleagues found stuff to cover me, called an ambulance and when I went back I had a new seat, no marks on the floor and nothing was said - ever.
Love and hugs
