MSE News: Ryanair passenger arrested after chicken sandwich dispute

  • Well done that man!

There seems to be to much Britishness in us who would more than likely have paid for the sandwich and then posted on a forum about how bad it was.

When I travelled thru Luton on an Easyjet flight to Madrid, we got a Boots Meal Deal for £3.49, a large drink, snack and sandwich. Much cheaper than getting the food on board.

However remember he was inbound to the UK, I've found foreign airports are often much more of a rip off than UK or US ones, that gentleman couldn't have got a sandwich in Madrid airport for £3.50!

Thought I'd say that having spoken to the man involved, he sounded like a very polite man and not one who would be abusive, in his defence.

In all fairness - who is ever going to admit that they were rude and abusive? Some of the worst behaviour I've seen from British people came from rich, educated people who were used to getting their own way.

Thing is its mentioned that he's offered to take a muffin instead which ryanair could have taken as a fair deal (and if you were being loud/abusive you would have normally just shouted tihs is all !!!! i want my money back and not requested somethign else), it doesn't sound like ryanair was trying to calm down the situation. The captain would have just responded to the airstewardess's request.
Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....

Why should Ryanair have taken it as a fair deal? He bought the sandwich, consumed half of it - and then started causing trouble. That's not a "fair deal" at all.

Also, we only have his word for it that the police didn't detain him for longer.

It is a fair deal. You don't just take have to take any ordure you are given in the free west. We didn't grow up under communism.

Funny thing is, I can't see that he caused trouble anywhere in the press reporting. So by complaining that the sandwich was inedible he was 'causing trouble'. Please, don't make me laugh. If I bought a sandwich that was inedible, you can bet your last lottie I would complain!
  • I would not fly Ryanair if they paid me. O'Leary is such an objectionable !!! of a man and always keen to get on the news with ridiculous non-stories about what he'll charge for next. Some airline food is pretty good and KLM used to be excellent until they teamed up with Air France. The food is now 'interesting', by no means cheaply made but with weird ideas of what a breakfast sandwich might be for universal appeal. Goat's cheese and walnut anyone?

partly i think he deserves everything he got for being stupid enough to buy anything from Ryanscum, never mind a "premium" sandwich. Talk about a contradiction in terms!

BUT i think people are absolutely within their rights to refuse to pay for something or demand a refund when they buy something that isn't up to scratch, especially when it was relatively expensive and marketed as being premium. Normally shops, restaurants etc are fine with this and offer a refund, replacement, whatever. Ryanscum are a law unto themselves and as long as people are happy to be treated like cr8p in exchange for cheap flights, that situation will continue. I have boycotted Ryanscum for 3 years now and have no intention of ever flying with them again, but that's another story.

Tbh I don't understand why people need to buy food on short haul flights anyway. Either eat before you leave home, buy something in the airport or take food with you. You just need to be a bit organised and think ahead. I have NEVER bought food or drink on a plane and quite enjoy the schadenfreude of watching people pay £1.50 for a KitKat they could have bought for 40p in the airport! :rotfl:

It's not always so easy to bring food from home, security can be a bit picky on taking food through customs.

Much easier to buy a meal deal, or eat your picnic before you head through security.;)

We are looking to get booked up for Christmas, Ryanair have the flights to our chosen destination on the date we want them, but they aren't getting any of our money, we will pay just a little more to fly with a carrier who doesn't try and squeeze every last penny out of us by means of stealth, and who doesn't court free publicity with their obvious 'news' items - I'm not so stupid that I don't realise all publicity is good - whether it is showing Ryanair's bad side or not, it is keeping their name on people's lips - and in forums like these;).

So, they'll be getting no £3.80 from me for a chicken sandwich either. Nor a pound to use the loo!
