MSE News: Ryanair passenger arrested after chicken sandwich dispute

At the risk of being unpopular, am I the only one to think that he should have paid?
Ryanair or not Ryanair, If you have/buy something, then you pay for it.
It's like me going to fruit and veg shop, tasting stuff, saying it tastes cr+p, and not paying or have I missed something?Originally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3

It might just be my eyes - but the guy looks exactly like James Hewitt! The spitting image of him...;)
I once had an interesting encounter with a Lufthansa "chicken" vol-au-von, so I do feel some sympathy for the fellow (the passenger; not Hewitt!). I'm minded to think that he shouldn't have to pay for a foul (no pun intended...:D), unpalatable sandwich. If he'd been in a half-decent restaurant, there wouldn't have been a problem with him sending back his inedible sandwich.
I strongly suspect that a grotty sandwich is not going to bring down Ryanair overnight. Now that poor s*d has had the embarrassment of being arrested and a future of popping up indefinitely in search results each time someone Googles "Ryanair"; along with "food" or "sandwich".
All that fuss for £3.80... for heaven's sake...!:doh:0 -
The polcie should of charged Ryanair for wasting police timeLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

I'm pleased someone has stood their ground on the issue of carppy airline food (not just Ryanair).
My hunch (and I may be wrong) is that they cited his behaviour as they realised they had screwed up and needed to save face.0 -
He should have paid for his sandwich like everyone else. Was it a 'try before you buy' of the sandwich? No.
He then should have taken up his dispute by writing to Ryanair afterwards. But no, he created a scene and yet again more sensationalist writing puts Ryanair in the wrong and the big bad guy.0 -

Sounds like it to me too, they say he'd been 'abusive' to police and the police obviously see through that.0 -
Isn't the real issue that RyanAir works to only two rules
1. RyanAir can do whatever it likes.
2. See rule 10 -
I'm amazed Ryanair called the police!
Surely having police meet the aircraft, locate and remove the offending passenger, and take statements from crew (when they should be preparing the aircraft for its next sector) would inhibit the 25 minute turnaround?!0 -
I always just take my own food on planes - theres no law against it (that I know of anyway - I've never been challenged about it).0
