Hi regarding overpayments, this works with Britannia... if you can get your mortgage account number you can make a payment directly from your bank account. So no need to send cheques off anymore which was what I was doing. I checked this with Britannia before and they said it was fine - so may be worth checking if other providers will do so too.
Best wishes!0 -
WOW didnt realise you could claim for milage over what work pays you?.. is this right?
My work only pay 28p and ive travelled thousands of miles for them over hte last year or so!
Which form is it?
Many thanks!
Good morning :j
Please see below info on how to claim for your mileage
Info on how to claim your expenses from HMRC website, the Form P87 is what you need.
Form P810
Even if you don't have to fill in a tax return each year, HMRC may still need to check your income every so often to make sure you don't pay too much or too little tax. They do this by asking you to fill in form P810.
When you fill in form P810 you can use it to ask for tax relief for your allowable expenses. If your expenses are over £1,000, HMRC will ask you to fill in form P87 as well to give them more details about your expenses.
Form P87
HMRC will send you form P87 if any of the following apply:
· you ask them to
· you claim expenses over £1,000
· it's the first time you've claimed
· you're claiming expenses for a year before the previous tax year
The form asks for details about your expenses and how you worked out the amount you want to claim.
If you have more than one job, or if you change jobs during the tax year, you'll need to fill in a separate form P87 for each job.
If you don't fill in form P87 after HMRC sends you one, they won't be able to allow your expenses claim. This means that you might pay too much tax.
Go to form P87
Time limits for getting tax relief
The time limits for asking for tax relief for your expenses are shown in the table below.

Hi Mango :j
Thanks for the info.. However we want to pay off the unsecured part of the mortgage (10K ish) first and the only way to get Northern Rock to apply my OP to that part is to do it by cheque.. A bit annoying, but we should be able to make larger payments soon , and are hoping to pay off that part early next year...
As soon as that is done, I will make my payments online, save on time and stamps
Thanks again for the advice

Afternoon all! :j
The weather up here is depressing.. I really fancy a holiday in the sun
We had a good weekend, pretty busy and all that, but managed a bit of relaxation too..
I managed to get cashback for a hotel booking for when my mum is coming over next month and staying overnight (Premier Inn £29) in Plymouth, after they disembark from the ferry..
I also changed my car insurance to my new car.. I stayed with the same provider as they still came out the cheapest, and also changed OH's car insurance, and managed to get £20 cashback too...
I have received the contents insurance renewal, up 33% from last year, are they taking the p*ss?? I am just waiting for the building insurance renewal, so i can do both together.. I found a good offer from Aviva: get building, get contents free + £65 cashback... Let's wait & see...
Hopefully will be making another OP in the next couple of days.. will update when the time comes...
I have also received my Eon energy monitor, but can't seem to be able to make it work, it does not pick up the data from the electric meter.. Were there not an Eon rep on MSE at some point, does anybody know if they could help out?
Hope all is well with you all..

Froggy,
Just stopping in to say hi having caught up on your diary. It seems like you are doing amazingly well at the minute.
Hope you are enjoying the new cars, I love it when you first get them and get to play with all the new gadgets so don't think you are at all sad.
Good luck sorting out the home insurance deals. I got a good one this year with more than plus cashabck.

Another day, another OP!
I have just paid off another £100 off the unsecured part of the mortgage... This is the 4th OP we have done since we started late July...
Still hoping to increase the OP when OH receives news about her pay rise & bonus.. She has now been waiting more than 6 months for it!!
Anyway, still good to see the balance going down month after month...:T
Hope you all have a good day

Our direct debit for the water is going down by £1.03 per month for the next year... I know I am getting excited about nothing, but hey thats another £12 ish that could go towards the mortgage
9am on a Sunday morning, and I am up tidying up the office, and going through paperwork...
We have family coming over for Sunday lunch (after the football!!)...
We are having roast chicken and all the trimmings, then homemade apple crumble...
Happy Sunday :A
