Obssesive or Normal DFW Behaviour

DontDoDebtKids wrote:I don't know about audio books but I definately read lots of finance-y-type books (Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a good one)
Thanks, you've reminded me that's another one I've been meaning to listen to.
The benefit of an audio book is you can listen to it while doing something else. I transferred the CDs 2 at a time to my mp3 player so I could listen to them while walking.0 -
It's all totally normal as far as I can see. I check pigsback loads, just in case I've missed a clicktrhough. I scoured the thread on the freebies board last night hoping I'd missed something because I needed ONE MORE POINT to order 3 boots vouchers. And I found something :j I check Quidco daily, check my spreadsheets loads - I also experiement to see what happens with different numbers. My internet banking is practically my home page!pounds_and_pensive wrote:
To gain 'obsessive' status and give yourself something new to do each day, simply grate some cheese on a piece of bread, paint a 'miraculous' image of the Second Coming or something on with Worcestershire Sauce to darken the cheese up a bit in places, toast and flog on eBaySome mug will buy it, and then you can do another one, until one day you're the owner of the world's biggest Dodgy Miracle Cheese On Toast empire
My ex bought Tom Cruise Toast Miracle off ebay a couple of months ago after a night out. Was that from you? He got a free Johnny Depp Toast Miracle too!DFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls

Listening to audio books for inspiration - try The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach and Turning Debt into Wealth by John Cummata.
I borrowed the John Cummuta CD series - very inspirational! I've got his 'Are you being seduced by debt?' book too, which has essentially the same material, but for a much cheaper price. I'd definitely recommend his stuff to anyone who wants to become debt-free asap, and then move on to wealth building.0 -
I am definitely an obsessive, I only have the internet at work (thank god) and first thing I check my internet banking, update my spreadsheets (now that would be a whole other thread- my OH is a financial analyst and therefore an excel genius, he has taken my spreadsheet to the extremes), check pigsback entering all the comps and of course come on here.
The only thing I do during the month toward paying off debt is "rounding up" so if I go to the supermarket with a budget of say £30 if I only spend £29.88 I put the extra 12p into my savings (all my debt is 0% so I only pay the minimum although I am so tempted to pay some off), any interest I earn in my current accounts (usually only pennies) gets put in there too.
I count my piggy bank regularly (ok, maybe every other day...)
I also check the internet for the best rates for mortgages and generally try to keep myself clued up.
I think that's about it.....Saving for an early retirement!0 -

I'm new to this having only had my LBM last month but I am also much older than the average DFW (plenty old enough to know better). I am already doing many of the obsessive things mentioned here but I do have a 2 part plan. Stage 1 which is to become debt free involves using savings to clear part of my debts. So stage 2 is building my savings back up again and I can see this could easily become obsessive as well - moving money between accounts, searching for the best rates, saving extra amounts to add to the total etc.
This site has changed my whole outlook on life and spending - just in the nick of time - I just hope the change is permanent and I do not regress to my old ways.0 -
is anyone else scared of getting the sack because of excessive internet use?!Was debt free... then went travelling!0

Oh lord. Totally normal. I'm off sick today, and so far I've checked my online banking eleven times, even though I'm not actually expecting anything in or out! Updating my sig is what I REALLY obsess over though - it's what I use to keep myself right up to date at a glance about exactly where I stand (what a convoluted sentence, but you know what I mean).Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095!
