Although, it would probably hurt as I haven't smoked a cig for about a year _pale__pale__pale_
If you do, let me know and I can point in the direction of the good coffeeshops - expensive, but good.
And also towards some nice pubs/bars, in cheaper and less touristy areas.
Basic rule of thumb though - if it has a british flag or bulldog on the logo, then avoid like the plague. You'll pay over the odds for absolute !!!!. And that applies to drinks, smokes, food anything.
Oh, and bring your own baccy. Impossible to get decent baccy here!
As for the smoking problem - you could always have brownies!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Is The Bulldog still going then?
I've not been there for about 30 years. Not sure if you mean the same place. It was in the red light area a street or two over from Wormoestraat (sp?) (only remember the road name because I stayed in a cheap hotel there called Hotel Kabul). I seem to remember it was on two levels. The soft drinks were upstairs. The smoking and scoring were downstairs LOL. To give an idea how long ago this all was, I remember watching a bit of Charles' and Diana's wedding live on theirt TV. Not that I'm a royalist but most TV is half reasonable when you're that stoned.
Is that place still there near Leidseplein called The Milky Way (Melkweg)? I do recall it was a bit out of town but the nos 1 and 2 trams used to go there. I think there was a disco/club nearby called Paradisio too.
Probably all shut down years ago but just curious.0 -

The Bulldog is now a chain! There are several, but all in the red light district from what I can tell.
The Melkweg is still there. I saw Laura Jansen in concert there. As is Paradisio - still a nightclub, but they also do some concerts/shows there too.
Leidseplein is actually a very busy touristy area now. But Rembrandtsplein is still pretty quiet (in comparison) and tends to be where the locals will go.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

I remember a really bizarre conversation I had in the Bulldog (the original one presumably).
There were two English guys sitting up the bar next to me as we supped away on our milkshakes. One of them asked me if I wanted to buy a car. I would swear to this day that the guy was the image of a younger version of Mel Smith (a comedian for the younger folks on here). It turned out that these two guys were skint because they had gone to Amsterdam and blown all their money on dope and prostitutes. They wanted some money to get home. They were about to go to (I think it was The Hague) to get repatriated. The crazy thing was that they had only just got their passports back after being repatriated from Germany. They were so skint, they had even tried to join the German army to earn some money LOL.
And I thought I was nuts.
Although I was a mess, I always got it together to make sure I had a basic return ticket just in case I got too smashed to get it together.
I used to use a company called Magic Bus that was based in Shaftesbury Avenue in London's West End. They used to get all the dirt cheap leftover tickets that the agents couldn't sell.0 -
