I have a BMW derv that has been remapped, bhp has been increased by around 20% also with an increase in torque also. Cant say that the mpg has increased though. Cost £300 but feel it was well worth with.
As i understand it as long as you only increase by 20% and no more shouldnt cause problems due to quality of derv used in UK.

Before had a tuning box on, howver after refitting following a service, connected wrong way around totally disabling the turbo giving many lights on the dash! Took it in to BMW who just fixed under warranty and didnt mention anything.

I was going to get a engine ECU remap or a super chip however I decided against it, what really is the point as you can't do those speeds, of course unless you want to lose your license or even kill someone!

Plenty of cars already have those power figures and more.A low powered car is only as safe as the person who drives it, the same as higher powered ones.

Plus some people use their car for other things than just driving on the road eg track days.Modifying a car is one of the few areas the goverment hasn't stuck its big fat sticky beak into yet unlike many other countries so we should enjoy the relative freedom of it while we still can.

Its fine to do technically. Can't really improve mpg, fuel is fuel. All a remap does is allow the injection system to chuck a bit more in than usual when you hoof it. Some say you get upto speed quicker so use accelerating levels of fuel for a shorter time - I am not convinced.

More importantly than the manufacturers warranty is that if you have a bad accident and the car is inspected, if you have not declared it to your insurers then your insurance is invalid - you could end up in debt for £250,000 compensation to the bloke whos legs had to be cut off, when you got out of prison!

That aside VW tdi's are the easiest to remap, easy to get it done for between £150-£250. There are also various brands of automatic download boxes (~£400). You plug it in the diagnostics socket in the car and can upload and swap between 'hot' maps or the bog standard map for example if you had to take it in for a service or warranty fix.

One reason I never also got a remap was because the exhaust on my car provides 15% extra BHP

    ;)

I will bet you a months wage that a new exhaust will not give you 15% extra power.

When I bought my car it came with the exhaust and the invoice for it, and stated the specs on it, it was bought from a high performance car specialist, total cost of exhaust was £1500 + VAT, and £200 fitting.

Its a twin stainless steel system right back to the engine

And think you will find my car defo has the power ;)

It might have more power but 15% I dont think so, not from an exhaust with no other modifications. You say it goes right back to the engine I assume you mean the manifold has been changed to?

It states clearly on the invoice bill the specs and one of those is 15% more BHP and more throttle response.

From what I remember I believe the manifold has been changed too.

I am always amazed by people driving BMW's on 2010 plates that try an overtake on the motorway ;)
Needless to say, they fail every time against my 2000 plate Mondeo :rotfl:

Also, if you would like to have a look on eBay and Google for the specs your welcome too :)

Its a Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 DuraTec engine no other mods but the exhaust, everything else is standard.

I have found one to start you off, a similar exhaust this guy has fitted to his and got 10% more BHP:

I have the 2.5 v6 hatch auto, the combination of comfort (leather heated seats) performance (168 bhp, plenty of torque) and features:-6 cd, air con, heated front screen and door mirrors, abs, traction control, cruise, etc etc, make this a desirable mode of transport. at 21,000 new and at 3 yrs 4,500 a real executive car for small money. And if you wanted to spice things up theres a chip to give 10-15% increase in power, also a stainless steel exhaust with twin pipes giving an extra 10 bhp
