  • asda is great for baby bargains I dont see point in paying for 2nd clothes when you can buy vests and babygrows just as cheap new from there. baby baths are less than £5 and top and tail bowl is 99p.

dont buy too much clothing though we didnt find out sex with DD just bought a pack of vests and baby grows in tiny baby and newborn cost less than £12 for all of it we bought plain white and DD had over 50 outfits by the time she was 48hours old ranging in a variety of sizes. DD was born in the may and with the exception of a new dress and shoes for my cousins wedding (because she was chrsitened the month before and got loads of money given generously by family we spoilt her) we didnt buy her any clothes until christmas that year and then only bought a few outfits again as family and friends bought clothes for presents. To be honest haven't had to buy many clothes for DD. May be different this time as baby due Oct so only 8weeks before christmas.

gumtree and ebay are great for other bargains though. we got our baby montitors from ebay (new) but a bargain at £35 we bought the bt digital plus which were selling everywhere else at over £70 at the time and we still use them now with DD who is 2.5 as she is so quite on a morning when she wakes and stays in her bed too till we get her unless we say get out.
  • I can honestly say my son NEVER used 8-10 nappies a day when he was newborn!

  • I won't be bathing baby in kitchen sink. Would rather get a little bath or large washing up bowl and do it in the bath :o

Looks like a trip to Ikea may be in order then. The cots are really reasonably priced, and I like Ikea stuff.
Bathing... I got one of these :) No faffing with a baby bath once finished with ;)

Ikea cots....they have some good ones but really check them...we were going to get the leksvik cotbed but the one on display didn't seem sturdy enough to DH and not big enough for a cotbed imo as we're using it til baby is gonna be around 5 or til next bubs comes along...whichever is 1st;):)

  • How many babygros/sleepsuits would I need initially?

I already bought some before...I just found the list I excitedly posted on another forum before my MC. So have these already:

    3 x M&S bibs (set)
    1 x pr M&S booties
    3 x Primark sleepsuits
    1 x blanket from Primark
1 X Next (via ebay) trousers & long sleeved top
2 x Next (via ebay) vests
    1 x M&S (via ebay) jacket
1 x M&S (via ebay) sleepsuit with matching hat and mittens
1 x Mamas and Papas (via ebay) sleeping bag
1 x Mamas and Papas (via ebay) dreampod

I probably won't be using the jackets as baby due in May, whereas I was buying for a December baby before :( Never know though :o

The sleepsuits I have are long sleeved, so will probably buy some short sleeved as well. Any other clothes I'd need?

I have bought all unisex colours anyway, not bothered about pinks and blues for a newborn :o Will probably get the odd coloured bit bought anyway!
  • Not sure if you have seen but Mothercare have 100 pounds off buggies and half price car seats and other baby items on there website! You might be able to pick up a bargin! I would also say that remember people will buy you things when baby born! We ended up with so much stuff it was silly and all DD wore for the first 6 months was babygrows and as she was a smaller baby than we expected and so the stuff for 0-3 months only fitted her when she was 3 months old!!

I'd recommend washable breastpads, as I found these much more absorbent than the disposable ones, although a box of good disposables like the Tommee Tippee ones are probably worth getting for the first week or so. Don't bother with the Tesco ones, they are ridiculously thin and I've had to double up.

Check out freecycle and / or Netmums for some absolute bargains.

I got my travel system (petite star city bug) from nurseryvalue.com - it is reconditioned for £65 - it had two tiny weeny pin scratches where the wheels pop on and a missing cup holder (£6.99 for a cup holder from there site). The full price one on their site was about £160 and it was more in other shops on the net.
I got mine from there, too, and managed to get the matching footmuff from Boots; well worth checking out nurseryvalue, there was only a missing drinks holder with mine and I saved over £100.

Also, forgot to say that the Galt Baby Nest is brilliant, I've used it with all 3 of mine, bought it for a fiver off Ebay and it's still going strong.

  • We are expecting our first child in April next year. Before I buy anything (computer, bike etc) I look online and research etc. Any top tips for baby stuff? I have no idea. A friend mentioned ebay but things like prams and cots tend to be all "buyer collect" and they all seem to be miles away. Any top tips welcomed :)
    Thanks
